New Honda Jazz the most comfortable in its class

Focus on adjustment and ergonomics reduces physical stress while driving

In developing the next generation of Jazz, Honda engineers and designers were unanimous in their desire to put driver and front passenger comfort first. Structural, design and ergonomic solutions were reviewed and applied simultaneously by the entire team, resulting in best-in-class comfort and space levels.

Most important for achieving this goal is Honda's recently developed stabilizer stand with structural support for seat cushions, attached to both the bottom and backs, and replaced with the S-shaped design in the previous model. The introduction of a wider "bottom" of the seat allowed to increase it by 30 mm depth. Great softness is felt immediately when sitting. Thanks to the new structure, combined with a large amount of stuffing, the pillows deform much more moderately and in most cases do not “fall” during use.

Improvements in the design of the backrest increase support in the lumbar vertebrae and pelvis, thereby stabilizing the passenger’s posture. This, in turn, prevents fatigue during long trips, especially in the hips and lower back. In addition, the new design contributes to a more comfortable and stable upright position when driving even in corners or on rough roads.

The backrests at the top above are beveled to support and envelop the passenger's back even better. This shape provides more space between the front seats, which in turn facilitates communication between passengers in the first and second rows of seats. At the lowest point, the seat is 14 mm closer to the ground, which in combination with rounded front corners makes it easier to enter and exit the car.

“Honda is constantly striving to offer comfortable seats and deliver the ultimate driving experience,” said Takeki Tanaka, the company's Global Projects Manager. – In addition to taking into account even the smallest details of the new Jazz, materials and position. In addition to the structural elements in the car, we have carried out research on the human body to ensure an extremely high level of comfort. As a result, the Jazz maintains its reputation for being a spacious and practical vehicle, and now with an improved sense of sophistication in everyday use.”

Honda engineers and designers work together for the comfort of second-class passengers. By moving the seat handles, they were able to increase the thickness of the filling by 24 mm.

Ergonomic improvements enhance interior comfort

Structural elements of the car, seats and adjustment buttons function in full synchronization in the name of optimal driver comfort. A number of fine-tuning and adjustments have been made to reduce physical stress while driving.

Ergonomic enhancements include a deeper internal pedal position for more comfortable operation, and the angle at which it is positioned has been changed to achieve a 5-degree increase in driver stance for a more natural position when using the pedal. Accordingly, the seat itself was moved to provide optimal support for the thigh.

Adjusting and choosing the most comfortable individual position for the driver is easier than ever, thanks to the extended steering wheel adjustment range. This is achieved by moving its center 14 mm closer to the driver. The steering angle is two degrees straighter than the previous model, so now it is more facing the driver. As a result of these changes, the distance from the shoulder to the seat was increased by 18 mm, and reaching the steering wheel requires a lower amplitude of arm movement.

Passengers in the second row use the best-in-class legroom of 989 mm, as the lead rails in the front seat are slightly offset to the sides and the distance between them is increased. The fuel tank is located in the center of the chassis under the front seats. This unique position allows the new Jazz to retain the patented Honda Magic Seats functional system. The lower part of the so-called “magic seats” can be raised like chairs in a movie theater, or they can be folded to reach a level floor if necessary.

With this complete improvement in passenger comfort in the new Jazz, ergonomics and even greater interior space that is consistent with the overall model design process, Honda has developed an extremely attractive offering in a compact class. The result is a completely new hybrid city car combining exceptional fuel economy with incredible functionality and comfort and ready to meet the needs of today's increasingly demanding clientele.
