New Lada Kalina Cross - first look

More recently, official representatives of the Avtovaz plant announced the launch of a new project called Lada Kalina Cross. At first, the same officials disowned this model when the first rumor spread in the network publications. But just the other day, they themselves announced an imminent new product. As we are promised, in the beginning of autumn it will be possible to buy new cars with improved characteristics for driving on country roads and rough terrain.

The main differences between the Cross-version and the usual Kalina 2

So, as it is already known that the novelty is based on Kalina 2 generations and it is the station wagon that is taken as the basis, since it is in this style that many modern crossovers are made. Of course, we will not get cardinal differences, but still this car has something to boast about:

Increased ground clearance up to 208 mm. It seems that this is not much, but in fact, not many real crossovers can boast of such parameters. The suspension raised the car 16 mm and the 15-inch wheels added another 7 mm.
Plastic moldings on the sides of the car, as well as a modified front and rear bumper. Thanks to these elements, the car looks more solid and voluminous.
There are also differences in the transmission. First of all, this is a change in the subordinate number of the main pair. Now it is 3,9 instead of the previous 3, 7.
With regards to the interior, there will be practically no changes. The only thing that can be noted is the bright orange inserts on the dashboard and seat upholstery.
The engine is still supposed to be installed with an 8-valve 87-horsepower, since it is not high-speed, but traction characteristics that are important.
Four-wheel drive is not yet planned, so that the usual front-wheel drive will remain for everyone. But even this will be quite enough to overcome light off-road terrain with such and such a clearance.
The shock absorber struts are no longer oil-filled, as it was before, but gas-filled.
The steering rack travel has become a little shorter and this is due to the increase in the diameter of the wheels, so that the turning radius has become slightly larger, but practically not significantly.
