A new car safety device made in Australia is set to save children's lives by keeping young children out of overheated cars.

The Infalurt is an Australian-made safety device that could save young lives.

Around 5000 young children need to be rescued from hot cars every year after being abandoned, putting their lives at risk, so a new car safety device has been made in Australia to solve a serious problem.

Infalurt's locally designed and manufactured product is "the first of its kind," founder Jason Cautra claims.

“After seeing the tragic deaths of children left unattended in child car seats, I launched a global search to determine if an alarm system already exists. This is not true. I set myself the task of developing a simple and effective device,” he said.

Infalurt consists of three components, including a capacity sensor located under the child seat, a control unit located next to the driver, and a vibrating alarm clock.

They interact with each other and sound an alarm if a child is left behind when the driver exits the vehicle.

“Just as built-in car seats are a must, we believe this device is just as necessary to keep children safe,” Mr Cautra added. “Infalurt has been designed to give parents peace of mind. We would like every vehicle to be equipped with a warning system to prevent unnecessary deaths.”

It's worth noting that some newer Hyundais and models offer a similar built-in feature called "Rear Passenger Alert", although it offers audible and visual in-vehicle alerts instead.

The complete Infalurt system is available for purchase on the Infalurt website for $369, but the three components can be purchased separately if required.
