The new Volkswagen ID.5 GTX will be unveiled at the IAA Mobility in September. First films right now

Volkswagen has made the VW ID.5 GTX available to select testers, i.e. the Volkswagen ID.4 coupe with all-wheel drive. The car is due to be officially shown on September 7 at IAA Mobility 2021, but today we know almost all of its technical data: the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX is just an ID.4 GTX with a slightly modified body.

The new VW ID.5 will be offered in two variants:

  • GTX four-wheel drive, maximum power 220 kW (299 hp) and battery 77 (82) kWh,
  • regular rear-wheel drive, 150 kW (204 hp) engine and 77 (82) kWh battery [but there will probably be more options here].

Despite the different shape of the body at the back and an additional 3 centimeters in length, trunk volume VW ID.5 should be the same as in ID.4 - 543 liters... The biggest difference from the SUV version is the slightly lower air resistance, which should translate into slightly better ranges of ID.5 than ID.4... Recall: the range of the VW ID.4 GTX is up to 480 WLTP units, that is, up to 410 kilometers in real terms in mixed mode (see also: VW ID.4 GTX, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5 test).

In terms of driving experience, the car is no different from the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX or the Audi Q4 e-tron 50 Quattro. On the other hand, Audi's advantage over Volkswagen is a different user interface and the ability to control the air conditioner with physical buttons. At Volkswagen, we use either the screen (which is inconvenient) or the touchpads, which are impossible to track at night - in the latter case we recommend voice commands (“I'm cold / warm” or “Set the temperature to x degrees”).

The testers failed to show the interior of the car, but the fragments that appeared in the frame show that the model will not differ much from its brother with an SUV body:

The advantage of the VW ID.5 over the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback will certainly come from the lower price point.... The cost of the car should be about 233-239 thousand PLN for the ID.5 GTX variant, which is 15-20 thousand less than the fastest Audi Q4 [assumption www.elektrowoz.pl, prices for Audi Q4 e-tron 50 and VW ID .5 GTX unknown]. The model will debut on September 7, 2021.
