The new Volvo V40 will also be hybrid and electric – Preview

Volvo is gradually renewing its entire model range. The next in the Scandinavian family to present itself in a completely new look will be the compact V40. Since 2012, the Swedish C-segment will be on the market with a new generation no later than 2019 and will have many new features, both aesthetic and mechanical.

In the spirit of the Volvo 4.0 concept

Design new Volvo V40 will be inspired Volvo 4.0 concept (opening) last year, with unprecedented dimensions, mainly due to the use of new CMA platform (compact modular architecture), which he will share with Xc40. Henrik Green, head of research and development at Volvo, commented:

"The CMA platform is great for building SUVs, but also for lower and more dynamic models.".

Thus, with the advent of this new architecture new Volvo V40 it will have a longer wheelbase, around 270cm, which gives it more space inside and gives it a good edge over some of its direct competitors.

Two electric with the proper level of power and autonomy

Among other things, the modular CMA platform will enable the installation of various types of mechanics as well as the electrification of the range. Therefore, the future V40 will offer several options. The first will be a plug-in hybrid variant, but then there will be two electric variants. In fact, Enric Green also stated that

"Each electric model will have at least two batteries with different power levels: one more affordable, the other more expensive, but with increased range and more power."

Obviously, this will not exclude traditional versions from options. In fact, there will be diesel options (four-cylinder D3 and D4) and gasoline (three-cylinder T3 and four-cylinder T4 and T5) with front or all-wheel drive.
