Trunk volume Mercedes EQC: 500 liters or 7 banana boxes [video]

Bjorn Nyland measured the luggage compartment capacity of the Mercedes EQC 400. It turns out that 500 liters of space means the ability to pack 7 boxes of bananas. That's one more than the Jaguar I-Pace and one less than the Audi e-tron. Interestingly, the Nissan Leaf II, located one segment below, performed better.

Mercedes EQC belongs to the D-SUV segment, i.e. is a direct competitor to the Jaguar I-Pace and the upcoming Tesla Model Y. The Bjorn Nyland rating clearly shows that luggage capacity remains the same for a certain class of cars. at a similar level, and the extra space is used to improve passenger comfort:

  1. Audi e-tron (E-SUV segment) - 8 banana boxes,
  2. Kia e-Niro (segment C-SUV) – 8 box,
  3. Nissan Leaf II (segment C) - 7 boxes,
  4. Mercedes EQC (D-SUV segment) - 7 boxes,
  5. Kia e-Soul (segment B-SUV) – 7 box,
  6. Tesla Model 3 - box 6 + 1 in front,
  7. Jaguar I-Pace (segment D-SUV) – 6 box,
  8. Hyundai Ioniq Electric (segment C) - 6 boxes,
  9. Kia Soul Electric - 6 boxes.

In the Mercedes EQC, window bevels proved to be a problem. If ordinary bags were packed in the car, the place closest to the hatch would probably be ideal for a folded stroller (called a stroller), small bags or backpacks. Therefore, it seems to us that the effective luggage compartment capacity of the Mercedes EQC is comparable to or better than that of the Leaf:

With the seat backs folded down, the car can hold 20 banana boxes.

But the most interesting thing was the space under the hood at the front: it turned out that in addition to the engine, inverter, transmission and other items, it has a strong harness, which is probably important in case of accidents. The photo below shows only a fragment of it at the height of the upper edge of the right wheel of the car:
