Running in a new car - does it make sense?

The moment has finally come - your new car is waiting for you to pick it up at the dealership. You can hardly contain the joy and excitement, looking forward to the opportunity to start the engine for the first time. A new level of comfort and performance is just around the corner! But do you know how to handle your new four wheels? Are you familiar with the term "breaking in a new car" but not quite sure what it entails? So check if it really makes sense and what it means to run over a car from a car dealership.

What will you learn from this post?

  • Running in a new car - what is it and what does it consist of?
  • Should you drive your car around the city or off-road?
  • Car wreckage from a car dealership - we only pay attention to the engine?

Shortly speaking

Leaving the dealership is a process that every driver should keep in mind when picking up their new car. It does not require much effort from us - the most important thing is not to forget to drive calmly and evenly. In this way, we will extend the life of the engine and ensure, among other things, lower fuel consumption.

Car burglary - what does it mean?

Breaking in a new car is a process that allows the engine to optimally match individual parts and components with each other. Here we can use a simple analogy - imagine that we buy a new pair of shoes that fit us. We have always liked this model, so we have been looking for it for a long time. In the end, a lot of good things came, and we decided to buy it. Unfortunately, the shoes of our dreams initially start to rub. It takes several days for the material to properly stretch and fit our foot to provide the expected comfort. In this example, the shoes are our machine - if properly approached to the object of its original use, the engine will repay us with a high work cultureand ultimately also lower fuel and engine oil consumption.

What is running in a new car?

The process of running a car from a car dealership is not too complicated. You might even be tempted to sum it up with one statement - the most important thing is to go slowly... However, this is a rather relative concept, so it's worth expanding this topic a little:

  • Let's not overdo it with the engine - manufacturers offer to drive the first few thousand kilometers at medium speeds, without very low or high speeds (preferably in the range 3000–3500).
  • Avoid sudden acceleration - forget about pushing the gas pedal "to the floor".
  • Let's not move faster than 130/140 km / h.
  • Let's not forget about frequent engine oil changes - although some manufacturers recommend replacing only after about 10 thousand km, it is worth doing this even earlier. Proper lubrication is the absolute basis for proper engine operation.

Is running in a new car a good idea? Yes, as long as we remember to take regular breaks (preferably every 2 hours). Then you need to let the engine cool down. If we get a chance running on a new car is also worth it in urban conditions... Regular starting, acceleration and deceleration allows all parts of the engine to be precisely matched. However, one should remember to avoid traffic jams.

Factory run-in of a new car - fact or myth?

Of course it's true. Manufacturers have long monitored that the engine is factory run-in at the production stage. Moreover, motorcycles are produced today. folded microscopically, thanks to the use of more efficient lubricants and almost error-free installation of all components. However, this does not free us, as drivers, from the need to take the car out of the car dealership ourselves. This is the only way to guarantee the engine a long service life.

However, driving a new car on the road or in the city is not only about taking care of the engine. The list of components that should be approached with extreme caution from the outset also includes brakes and tires:

  • keeping in mind the hacking of the mechanical components of the brake system, let us remember that so as not to brake abruptly (unless, of course, this is a situation that threatens our health or life);
  • in the case of tires, please note that they reach their optimum parameters after traveling about 500 km. - until then, their grip on the ground will be a little weaker.

Let's not only take care of the new car

Running in a new car is extremely important, but it is equally important to take care of cars that are several years old. To use doesn't always mean worse, and if we get the right approach to using such a vehicle, it often pays off.
