Pedestrian detection

It is an innovative active safety system developed by Volvo and found in the latest in-house models and useful as an emergency braking aid. It is capable of detecting and identifying any obstacles present in the direction of the vehicle's movement, alerting the driver of a possible collision hazard using audible and visual signals. If necessary, the system automatically engages the braking system, performing emergency braking to avoid impact.

Pedestrian detection

It consists of: a radar that emits continuous signals to scan the horizon moment by moment, detecting the presence of any obstacles, assessing their distance and dynamic conditions (if they are stationary or moving, and at what speed); and a camera located centrally at the top of the windshield to detect the type of object that can detect obstacles only 80 cm high.

The functioning of the system was also made possible by the presence of the ACC, with which it constantly exchanges data in order to obtain as much information as possible.

"Pedestrian detection" is one of the most interesting safety discoveries, capable of guaranteeing a complete stop of a vehicle without damage at speeds up to 40 km / h. However, the parent companies are constantly conducting research, so further development of this type of system cannot be ruled out in the near future.
