2021 Volkswagen Golf Review: R-Line Snapshot

The Golf R-Line is the top of the non-performance Golf range with sportier features at an MSRP of $37,490.

The R-Line is still only powered by a 1.4 TSI 110-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 110kW/250Nm, mated to an eight-speed automatic torque converter only.

The R-Line comes standard with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity, built-in sat-nav and digital radio.

Elsewhere, the R-Line includes sportier seat trims, a sportier body kit, and a perforated leather flat-bottom steering wheel with a touchscreen control panel.

Keyless entry, push-start ignition, three-zone climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels and upgraded interior trim are also introduced, along with improved LED headlights with automatic high beams.

Like the rest of the lineup, the R-Line is equipped with VW's full "IQ Drive" active safety package, which includes automatic emergency braking at speed with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping assist with lane departure warning, monitoring blind spots with rear cross traffic. warning, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control and emergency assistance.

Along with eight airbags and a standard suite of electronic aids, this ensures a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating by 2019 standards.

The entire VW range is covered by a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, including roadside assistance. To reduce maintenance costs, the brand offers pre-packaged "Maintenance Plans" that cover three or five years of service at the time of purchase, priced at $1200 or $2100 respectively.
