60 Volvo V2020 review: R-Design snapshot

Basically, there are two top models in the 60 Volvo V2020 station wagon lineup, and they both have R-Design treatment.

There's the T5 R-Design, which has a starting price of $66,990 plus travel expenses, and the more expensive T8 plug-in hybrid, which costs $87,990 plus travel expenses.

The T5 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 192 kW (at 5700 rpm) and 400 Nm (1800–4800 rpm) of torque, 5 kW/50 Nm more than other T5 models. It uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive. The claimed acceleration time to 0 km/h is 100 seconds. Claimed fuel consumption is 6.3 l/7.3 km.

T8 is a more technological power unit. It also uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (246kW and 430Nm of torque) that is paired with a 65kW/240Nm electric motor. The total power is 311 kW and 680 Nm, and the acceleration time to 0 km/h is only 100 seconds! And since it has electric power that can travel 4.5 kilometers, the claimed fuel consumption is only 50 l/2.0 km.

In terms of equipment, the T5 and T8 R-Design models are nearly identical, although the T5 version gets Volvo's Four-C adaptive chassis tuning that the T8 doesn't.

Otherwise, R-Design variants have “Polestar optimization” (custom suspension tuning from Volvo Performance), 19-inch alloy wheels with a unique look, a sporty exterior and interior design package with R-Design sport leather seats, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, metal mesh and interior trim.

That's in addition to standard LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights, a 9.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, as well as DAB+ digital radio, keyless entry, auto-dimming rearview mirror, auto-dimming, and auto-fold fender. -mirrors, dual-zone climate control and leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel.

Safety equipment is also extensive: automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear AEB, lane keeping assist with lane departure warning, steering-assisted blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise- control and rear view camera with front and rear parking sensors. The R-Design also has a head-up display, a 360-degree parking camera, and a parking assist system.
