The vehicles tested also include the latest generation Opel Astra, which boasts five stars in the overall safety rating. Recall that this is the latest brainchild of Opel, which will be produced at the plant in Gliwice.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser, which received only three stars, performed much worse in this test, although its overall rating for safety systems and the safety of children being transported was quite good.
However, it is worth noting that the vast majority of the tested vehicles received the maximum number of five stars, which indicates their high level of safety in certain categories.
The EuroNCAP Institute was established in 1997 and its aim from the very beginning was to test vehicles from a safety point of view.
Euro NCAP crash tests focus on a vehicle's overall safety performance, providing users with a more accessible result in the form of a single score.
The tests check the level of safety of the driver and passengers (including children) in frontal, side and rear collisions, as well as hitting a pole. The results also include the pedestrians involved in the crash and the availability of safety systems in the test vehicles.
Under the revised testing scheme, which was introduced in February 2009, the overall score is the average of scores obtained in four categories: adult safety (50%), child safety (20%), pedestrian safety (20%) and system security. availability maintaining security (10%).
The institute provides test results on a 5-point scale marked with asterisks. The last, fifth star was introduced in 1999 and was not awarded to any car until 2002.
