Opel Unveils OnStar System Capabilities [VIDEO]

Opel OnStar Personal Communications and Service Assistant will be available soon. OnStar Travel Comfort will be available on all models from ADAM to Insignia starting in June. How does it work and what does the system give?

For Opel passenger car users, a wide range of new services and features will be available free of charge for the first 12 months. “With OnStar, Opel is setting new standards for connectivity and personalized service. Opel is redefining luxury: now every Opel driver can call his assistant at the touch of a button. The car will also have an onboard Wi-Fi network,” says Tina Müller, Opel Marketing Director.

The most important functions of the Opel OnStar system:

• Automatic Collision Response System (SOS) including XNUMX/XNUMX emergency services and roadside assistance
• Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot with fast data transfer, which can connect up to 7 devices at the same time
• Smartphone app for remote control of e.g. car central locking
• Help in case of car theft
• Vehicle diagnostics, including monthly email updates on the status of key systems and components such as airbags and transmission.
• Travel itinerary download, which allows OnStar consultants to send the location of a selected restaurant or other point of interest to the Opel navigation system in the car.

With the launch of OnStar, Opel is taking the next step in connecting cars to the internet. OnStar is already setting standards in the automotive industry with web-based security and protection solutions, enhanced mobility services and advanced information technology. Opel will make the service available in 13 European countries this summer: Belgium, Germany, France, the UK, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain. A little later, the system will cover other countries. Customers will be able to use the full range of Opel OnStar services and Wi-Fi hotspot free of charge for the first 12 months after registration. Today, OnStar has over 7 million customers in the US, Canada, China and Mexico. They can use features such as 4G LTE connectivity, emergency assistance, and smartphone remote control.
