🔧 How to change the axis?

Axle replacement takes 3 to 4 hours. A new axle is usually shipped assembled, so all you need to do is install the fasteners. However, you will have to remove many parts and, in particular, the brake system, from which, therefore, you will have to remove air.

Step 1: Remove the brake system

Start by jacking the vehicle by jacking it up and removing the wheels. Then remove the rear brakes on each side of the car, as well as the ABS sensors on both wheels of the train. You will have to remove the brake pipe and therefore release the brake fluid.

Step 2: disassemble the axle

Remove the silent blocks from the exhaust pipe (muffler and the exhaust itself) and remove the entire exhaust pipe. Then disassemble the hub plates on each side and remove the shock absorbers. You can then remove the axle itself by unscrewing the four screws. Be careful, the axle is quite heavy.

Step 3: install the new axle

Install the new axle and tighten its screws. Observe the tightening requirements stated in the maintenance booklet. Then reassemble the shock absorbers, always observing the tightening torque. Then put the previously removed components: reinstall the plates on the hubs, brake pipes, ABS sensor. Finally, attach the brake cables to the axle.

Then you have to assemble the exhaust pipe and three exhaust bushings. Then you can assemble the braking system and then the wheels themselves. Finally, remove the candles and get out of the car.

💰 How much does the axle cost?

The price of one axle is usually 300 € O. At this price, you will have to add the amount of labor according to the hourly wage your mechanic is practicing. Removing the old axle and installing a new one takes several hours. So give half a day to change the axis - 3 to 4 hours overall enough.

Please note that sometimes it is possible to repair an axle without replacing it completely. However, repairs are only possible if the axle condition is not critical. The axle repair kit allows you to replace the lever axle and bearings.
