Fuel Volume Adjuster Control Circuit Out of Range / Performance

What does this mean?

This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is a generic transmission code, which means it applies to OBD-II equipped vehicles, including but not limited to Ford, Dodge, Vauxhall, VW, Mazda, etc. vary by brand / models.

P0002 is not a very common trouble code and is more common on common rail diesel (CRD) and/or diesel engines, and vehicles equipped with gasoline direct injection (GDI).

This code refers to the electrical system as part of the fuel volume regulator system. Automotive fuel systems are composed of many components, fuel tank, fuel pump, filter, piping, injectors, etc. One of the components of high pressure fuel systems is the high pressure fuel pump. Its task is to increase the fuel pressure to the very high pressure required in the fuel rail for the injectors. These high pressure fuel pumps have low and high pressure sides as well as a fuel volume regulator that regulates the pressure. For this P0002 code, it refers to an electrical reading that is outside of normal parameters.

This code is associated with P0001, P0003 and P0004.

symptoms

Symptoms of a P0002 trouble code may include:

  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illumination
  • The car will not start
  • Sluggish mode is on and / or no power

Possible reasons

Possible causes of this engine code may include:

  • Defective fuel volume regulator (FVR) solenoid
  • FVR wiring / harness problem (wiring short, corrosion, etc.)

Possible solutions

First, check the reputed Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) for your year / make / model. If there is a known TSB that solves the problem, it could save you time and money while diagnosing.

Next, you will want to visually inspect the wiring and connectors related to the fuel regulator circuit and system. Pay attention to obvious wire breaks, corrosion, etc. Repair as necessary.

The Fuel Volume Regulator (FVR) is a two-wire device with both wires returning to the PCM. Do not apply direct battery voltage to the wires, otherwise you may damage the system.

Please refer to the factory service manual for more detailed troubleshooting instructions for your year / make / model / engine.

Renault 1700 diesel with common rail 0445010799. The car starts regularly, if when the car is stopped I press the accelerator pedal and the engine stops, if
I gradually accelerate the engine revs regularly. The code p0002 comes out of the diagnosis. I checked the pressure regulator on the flute, the injectors, the diesel filter and the low pressure all perfect. What can be the cause?
