P0137 B1S2 oxygen sensor circuit low voltage

OBD2 - Technical Description - P0137

P0137 - Low voltage in the O2 oxygen sensor circuit (bank 1, sensor 2).

P0137 is a generic OBD-II code indicating that the O2 sensor for bank 1 sensor 1 is unable to raise the output voltage above 0,2 volts, indicating excess oxygen in the exhaust.

What does trouble code P0137 mean?

This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is a generic transmission code, which means it applies to OBD-II equipped vehicles. Although general, specific repair steps may differ depending on the brand / model.

Essentially the same as P0136, P0137 applies to the second oxygen sensor on block 1. P0137 means the O2 oxygen sensor voltage has remained low for more than 2 minutes.

The ECM interprets this as a low voltage condition and sets the MIL. Bank 1 Sensor 2 is located at the rear of the catalytic converter and should provide an output related to the oxygen storage capacity of the catalytic converter. This rear (sensor 2) sensor is less active than the signal produced by the front sensor. However, if the ECM detects that the sensor is inactive, this code will be set.

Symptoms

The driver may not see any visible symptoms other than the MIL (Check Engine / Service Engine Soon) lighting.

  • The engine will fill when the sensor is checked for problems.
  • The Check Engine light will come on.
  • You may have exhaust leaks up to or near the O2 sensor in question.

Causes of the P0137 code

The P0137 code may mean that one or more of the following events have occurred:

  • Defective o2 sensor Exhaust gas leak near the rear sensor
  • Clogged catalyst
  • Short circuit on voltage in a signal chain O2
  • High resistance or open in O2 signal circuit
  • The engine is running very rich or lean
  • Engine misfire condition
  • Very high or low fuel pressure - fuel pump or pressure regulator
  • The ECM detects a low voltage problem and turns on the Check Engine light.
  • The ECM uses other O2 sensors to check and control fuel injection using their values.
  • Exhaust leaks

HOW DOES A MECHANIC DIAGNOSTIC CODE P0137?

  • It scans codes and documents and captures frame data, then clears codes to check for errors.
  • Monitor O2 sensor data to see if the voltage switches between low and high at a faster rate than other sensors.
  • Checks the O2 sensor harness and harness connections for corrosion at the connections.
  • Check the O2 sensor for physical damage or fluid contamination.
  • Check for exhaust leaks ahead of the sensor.
  • Carries out special tests of the manufacturer for further diagnostics.

Possible solutions

  • Replace defective sensor
  • Repair the exhaust leak near the rear sensor
  • Check for obstructions in the catalyst and replace if necessary.
  • Repair the short, open, or high resistance in the o2 signal circuit.

COMMON ERRORS WHEN DIAGNOSING CODE P0137?

Follow these simple guidelines to avoid misdiagnosis:

  1. Repair any exhaust leaks ahead of the sensor to prevent excess oxygen from entering the exhaust stream causing low voltage readings.
  2. Check the O2 sensor for oil or coolant contaminants that could contaminate the sensor.
  3. Repair any damaged harnesses properly to avoid erroneous sensor readings.
  4. Check the removed O2 sensor for damage due to a broken catalytic converter and replace the catalytic converter if it is separated.

HOW SERIOUS CODE P0137 IS?

  • The output voltage of the O2 sensor may be due to exhaust leakage, causing the output voltage of the O2 sensors to drop.
  • The ECM cannot properly control the fuel/air ratio of the engine's fuel mixture if either O2 sensor is defective. This leads to poor fuel consumption and possible premature failure of some engine components.

WHAT REPAIRS CAN FIX CODE P0137?

  • O2 Sensor Replacement for Bank 2 Sensor 1
  • Repair or replace the wiring or connection to the O2 sensor for bank 2 sensor 1.
  • Repair exhaust leaks up to the sensor

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS TO BE AWARE OF CODE P0137

The O2 sensor circuit for bank 1 sensor 1 is used to provide voltage feedback to the ECM that displays the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust stream to help the engine better control the fuel to air ratio. A low voltage indicates either an excess of oxygen in the exhaust or a problem that caused the problem.

    Hi
I have a Ford Fusion check engine sign, and the lower oxygen sensor has been changed, but the sign still appears, and upon examination it gives a lower oxygen sensor, even though it is new
    Are there other reasons?

    Hello
    I keep a Peugeot 3008 from 2012
    Your oxygen sensors are 4-wire
The lines that supply voltage to the heating resistance receive only 3.5 volts
What should be the cause, understanding that 12 volts should reach them
    Code P0132 comes out
    flashing state
Upstream oxygen descender signal. Shorted to battery positive
