According to the Japanese Nikkei, Panasonic will produce 4680 cells in "existing factories." So far, there has been a presentation shown during Battery Day that showed that Muska wants to make cells for itself, but apparently this is only part of a larger whole.

4680 cells in the States from Panasonic, in Europe from Tesla, in China from LG Chem?

On the occasion of Battery Day, we learned that 4680 cells (4,6 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height) are to be produced first (2021) in small quantities and then (2022) in bulk at Giga Berlin. The declaration showed that Tesla wants to manufacture them for itself, but has no plans to cut ties with other suppliers.because the needs of the company outweigh the possibilities.

So far, 4680 cells are produced only on the pilot line of the Fremont plant (California, USA).

Just a month after Battery Day, LG Chem announced that it was preparing to produce a new cylindrical cell format that also closely resembles the 4680 cells in the photo above. Shortly thereafter, Panasonic announced that they were working on a battery based on new cells, but cells are one thing, and batteries assembled from these cells are another.

Given that the 18650 cell lines (Tesla Model S and X) were sent to Japan, and the Gigafactory in Nevada (USA) deals with strategic 2170 cells (Tesla Model 3 and Y), it should be taken into account that the "existing plant" is probably Nevada mills.

The American subsidiary wants to increase the capacity of the line by 10 percent in the same year, and is also considering building a plant on the European continent.
