Parallel test - MV Agusta F3, MV Agusta Brutale 800, MV Agusta Turismo Veloce // Three pistons - one for three, three for one

The origins of the brand (MV stands for Meccanica Verghera Agusta), which got back on its feet after the Second World War, or rather in 1945 in the town of Cascina Costa, after it was revived in 1923 by Count Giovanni Agusta, was much more modest. Although already in the pre-war period with a touch of nobility and was constantly associated with aviation, since the boys in the Agusta family were pilots. We tested the Agusto F3, Brutale 800 and Turismo Veloce in a joint test. Very different in design and purpose, but so similar in character.

Legendary Agusta F3

If we believe you that the Agusta is the choice of F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who loves to ride two-wheelers around the racetrack, we've probably said it all. In the F3 675 supersport model, the three-cylinder engine screams (yes, it's divine). This aggregate design, which won a total of 75 world titles, propelled the legendary Giacomo Agostini to famed tracks. This super sports car boasts a counter-rotating main shaft, the famous triple exhaust system, aggressive headlamp design and a single axle rear wheel mount. The 675 is designed to be driven on the highway, so making your way under the armor of a hidden driver in the afternoon crowd of Ljubljana is more torment than joy. It has a MVICS system with multiple settings for the operation of the unit, an electronically controlled throttle lever (Full Ride by Wire), 8-speed rear wheel slip control, an EAS 2.0 up-down transmission and a hydraulic clutch.

Cruel cruel

Clothesless motorcycles with a sports engine accelerated have recently taken over from supersport motorcycles. Brutale is a simplified Agusta car with an aggressive shape, which is distinguished by a characteristic oval headlight and three exhaust pipes. It is the only engine in this class to offer electrically controlled up/down shifting as standard. The unit has three modes of operation: for road and sports driving and driving in the rain, while the driver can also adjust the operation of the unit at his discretion. Also worth mentioning are the electronically controlled Full Ride by Wire throttle lever, eight-way rear wheel grip adjustment and Bosch 9 Plus ABS. Brutale is a motorcycle with character, aggressive looks and excellent driving performance, and it is true that (like any beauty) it can only be mastered by those who have sufficient experience.

Sports tourist

Designed for long journeys, the Turismo Veloce has a sporty soul. For the "tourist" it is still an aggressive design, and our experience shows that it is also comfortable. Turismo Veloce is a combination of speed, pleasure and comfort even on long trips. Unsurprisingly, its mechanical heart is a living 800-cubic-foot three-cylinder engine taken from the F3 supersport. The unit has a counter-rotating main shaft, which is a unique technical solution in the segment of touring motorcycles. The torque of the unit is smooth and continuous, which is also confirmed by the numbers, since 90% of the torque is available at 3.800 rpm.

Face to face: Petr Kavchich

The parallel test, in which we put these three very special bikes side by side, was kind of logical. I kept thinking about which one to take to the garage, and I can honestly say that Brutale is deeply rooted in my heart. This beauty won my heart when she hit the market in 2001. It was and still is a Ferrari on two wheels. The character, the itchy sound and the timeless beauty of the bike leave me in no doubt. For me, Brutale is also the best choice for everyday use, but when I want adrenaline in the corners, it gives me the most pleasure. During my break, when I go for a glass of water and a good Italian espresso, it's so nice to look at it, even if it's parked by the road. Beauty. A few more words about the other two. The Turismo Veloce is my second choice for pure practicality, but I still tentatively classify it as a touring bike. At 180cm I'm already a bit big for this otherwise very special bike and I think that's a big plus. Depending on how it rides, how it pulls the engine, how the brakes stop, it's more of a super motor with a bit more wind protection. It will suit anyone who is short in stature.

Although last time I would have chosen F3, this does not mean that I do not like it. The only thing that worries me is the very narrowly limited range of use, which is limited to a race track or a very fast road with long curves. But it doesn't work for me, because I don't like driving on roads like a race track. I recently rode it on the Kyalami circuit and really enjoyed it. This is his natural habitat - the hippodrome, not the city crowd.

Although all three have mechanically identical hearts beating between the tubes of perfectly welded frames, the three beauties have completely different personalities. But since this is about design poetry, it would be nice to compare them to girls, but at least in terms of characters, I can say that we are dealing with a model, a whore and an athlete. But each has at least a pinch of the other two.

The F3 is, of course, a model polished to the smallest detail, with perfect cycling and mechanics. Her sound makes her hair stand on end and she is technically the most perfect of the three, of course. Definitely a bike that I would find room for in my garage, although at 187cm tall it doesn't fit my needs.

The naked Brutale technically offers the best in its class, but obviously with 110 horses, it's not the wildest bike in its class. It is a shame that the ergonomics are such that strongly bent knees are required. But in fact, I would not bother too much with this, I would devote all my attention solely to finding some hidden area where I could exorcise the devil from him at will. It attracts like a magnet, very harsh.

Thank God (or the engineers) that, at least on the Turismo Veloce, the handlebar-seat-support triangle is sized in such a way that you can sit on it for a very long time, and at the same time all the limbs rotate normally. I confess I have never been able to hide my enthusiasm for this bike, but I stand by the fact that it definitely deserves it. In driving, almost nothing lags behind the vulgar Brutalka, of course, taking into account the difference in power and torque curves and engine maps. For the price, this is not the best buy, but it is so pleasantly different from the competition that it is simply worth buying. Turismo Veloce is my winner.

If you know what “racing” genetics means and what it brings with it, and if that doesn't bother you, then MV Agusta might be the right choice for you.
