Crossing the road. What do pedestrians need to know and remember? Police regularly urge drivers to significantly slow down and take extra care when crossing a pedestrian crossing. Pedestrians should not forget about their rights and obligations!

Article 13 1. Pedestrians are required to take special care when crossing a road or path. and, subject to points 2 and 3, use the pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian at this crossing has priority over the vehicle.

2. Crossing the carriageway behind a pedestrian crossing is allowed at a distance of more than 100 m from the crossing. However, if the crossing is located at a distance of less than 100 m from the marked crossing, crossing is also allowed at this crossing.

3. Crossing the road beyond the pedestrian crossing specified in par. 2 is allowed only on condition that it does not pose a threat to traffic safety and does not interfere with the movement of vehicles. The pedestrian must give way to vehicles and cross to the opposite edge of the road along the shortest road perpendicular to the axis of the road.

4. If there is an overpass or underpass for pedestrians on the road, the pedestrian is obliged to use it, taking into account par. 2 and 3.

5. In built-up areas, on two-way roads or where trams run on a track separated from the road, a pedestrian crossing the road or track must use only a pedestrian crossing.

6. Crossing the track, separated from the road, is allowed only in a specially designated place.

7. If an island for passengers at a public transport stop is connected to a pedestrian crossing, walking to the stop and back is allowed only after this crossing.

8. If a pedestrian crossing is marked on a two-way carriageway, then the crossing on each carriageway shall be considered a separate crossing. This provision applies, mutatis mutandis, to a pedestrian crossing at a place where traffic of vehicles is separated by an island or other devices on the road.

Article 14. Prohibited

1. entrance to the road:

a) directly in front of a moving vehicle, including at a pedestrian crossing,

b) outside a vehicle or other obstacle that impairs the visibility of the road;

2. crossing the road in a place with limited visibility of the road;

3. slowing down or stopping unnecessarily when crossing a road or path;

4. running across the road;

5. walking on the path;

6. exit to the track when the dams or semi-dams are abandoned or have started to leave;

7. a road crossing at a place where a safety device or obstacle separates the road for pedestrians or the sidewalk from the road, regardless of the side of the road on which they are located.
