Peugeot 3008 1.6 THP (110 kW) Premium

In particular, the new 3008 is considered a very atypical Peugeot. Not as unusual as its big brother, the 4007, which is hand in hand in disguise as the Mitsubishi Outlander, but stands out from Tristoosmic and Dvestagedmic. This is mainly due to the pompous form.

A huge raised nose with an uncharacteristically tall Peugeot license plate, with a large mask, air intakes and a huge pair of headlights digging deep into the seemingly carved fenders that we are used to from this part of the PSA.

The rear of the 3008 is even more unusual as there are double tailgates (as in the case of the 4007) and the taillights are fitted as a sort of colored patch. The rear window, with its small size, is the complete opposite of the long and large average. As a result, reversing is a little more difficult, but the lesser opacity can be compensated for by parking sensors (surcharge 3008 euros). 300 is not an SUV, and does not want to be one. He boasts that there is more.

More? A mixture of station wagon, SUV and minivan. The 3008 is an SUV due to the greater distance between the body and the ground and therefore the high seating position, which allows better visibility of what is going on around the car, which can be placed in the upper part of the lower middle class of cars. About 308.

Interestingly, the driving feel is closer to a sedan than an SUV, as the roof and especially the upper doorframe are located quite close to the driver's head, especially for the panoramic roof version such as the test. The owner of the 3008 will love the trunk the most. Not because of the totally ample capacity that doesn't hold record water, but because of listening to the user with whom they created space for the rear bench seat.

If we stop at the double doors first. Their disadvantage is that the lower part, when open, takes up some space for maneuvering when loading. There are many more advantages, from the fact that in narrow parking lots it is very convenient to open a small upper part, to two shelves, the lower of which allows a multi-level layout.

It can sometimes be annoying when you only have two hands but want to put food in the machine. You shouldn't have any problems with the 3008, as the bottom shelf that forms the double bottom of the boot can get stuck diagonally. You are stuck loading and replacing the shelf.

You can place it lower or higher, somewhere above the level of the closed bottom, which again has several advantages: better layout, easier unloading and loading due to the minimal loading edge, in addition, you can load and unload things at the bottom ... (or top) part regardless of anything else.

The trunk is enlarged by a two-thirds system with a very simple folding of the rear seat backs (the levers are in the trunk struts), in which a hole in the middle section helps to transport longer items, as well as the elbow of the rear passenger. rest. We were a little disappointed with the flexibility of Peugeot's new trump card.

There is no longitudinally movable back bench or adjustable backrests. However, there should be enough room in the back for two adults, especially their knees. If you think the 3008 is special on the left because of its looks, you haven't driven it yet. He's an old acquaintance with his slightly plump face, but a completely different story with the driver's right knee.

The very bulky center console makes the cockpit feel like a sort of airplane nest. The front seats are good, the position behind the adjustable steering wheel is favorable. Less encouraging is that there are few quality storage facilities.

True, in a huge box on the center console (with air conditioning, backlit) you can store a lot, by Peugeot standards, a very modest box in front of the passenger and a closed box under the steering wheel in the door compartments. , in the shelf above the screen, in the front seats. in the passenger's left ankle, in a shelf under the steering wheel, in closed drawers under the feet of the rear outside passengers and in the can groove in the center console, but when you have two drinks from a fast food restaurant in your hands, you don't know exactly where to go.

If we could be a little more stingy, we would also roll our ears to those who have on their conscience the position of the buttons for turning off the internal alarm and parking sensors (the buttons are on the left under the steering wheel, which covers them.) And the decision of the on-board computer screen.

You can put something new on the center console, not that chewed orange edge, which is also less visible in bright sunlight and gets nervous when you turn on the trip computer, and after a few seconds it is overtaken by the radio display. ... The experience of testing the P3008 dual-zone air conditioner gave us the feeling that its automatic operation is rather modest, so manual assistance is appreciated.

The 3008 electronics maintains an easy uphill start and independently engages the parking brake. It can be activated and deactivated by pressing a switch, and its automation can be turned off in the selector, but then every time you park (level), when you exit, you will be accompanied by a car shouting that the parking brake is not applied.

It's better to let the car pull and pull at will, which also has the good side of being easier to handle. Just be careful not to turn off the car at the car wash with the conveyor belt because there will be problems. In principle, life with 3008 is simple and, above all, comfortable. If only he had a smart start key, and when things like opening the fuel tank with the key roamed the dustbin of history.

Under the hood of the Peugeot 3008 being tested, BMW's 1-liter turbocharged petrol engine, also known as a member of the 6, 308 and Mini engines, did its job more than satisfyingly if we limit ourselves to just two brands. During a quiet ride, the 207 THP was content with an average of seven liters of fuel, which is a good result that is not spoiled by even the ten liters required for dangerous driving.

The engine already produces 1.400 Nm of torque at 240 rpm, which makes it possible to lazy with the lever of the six-speed manual gearbox, when turning almost six thousandths, where it reaches a maximum power of 110 kilowatts, and also interferes with sports pleasures. only because of poor traction on more slippery wheels.

Although Peugeot sells Grip Control (various ESP stabilization settings for driving on mud, snow and sand, up to 50 km / h can also be switched) as an equivalent to all-wheel drive, the truth is different.

The 3008 is good at cornering as, due to its high center of gravity, there are quite a few tilts (the third shock, which acts as a hydraulic stabilizer, is to blame for taming the rear end in this version and in the most powerful diesel), and the driving performance is convincing, maintaining direction (this physics works, first the exit from the corner warns the nose), but we already drove several four-wheel drive competitors, whose characteristics were more convincing. by better transferring power to the road.

A significant proportion of the occasional squeak at intersections is also accounted for by the 16-inch balloon shoes, which also contribute to the rather long stopping distances. However, it must be admitted that the new Peugeot is comfortable. Thanks to this, the engine is also quieter, and this is the main reason for deciding on a purchase. Finally, we would like to touch on the good standard equipment of the 3008.

A Confort Pack is standard on this Peugeot model including ESP, electric parking brake, six airbags / curtains, power windows and mirrors (also heated), manual air conditioning, MP3 radio and trip computer.

Face to face. ...

Vinko Kernc: Blinded by technical details, I often do not see the real world: when Qashqai approached, I did not understand what he meant. Now (after the battle and the generals ...) it is clear: the recipe is (very) successful. So I have no doubt that 3008 will also be successful, which somehow belongs to the same (fairly new) subclass (something), but it also has a nice feature of being less harsh on the outside. than other Peugeots, namely: useful, innovative inside (as far as possible today) and attractive, and especially the fact that it is available with such a powerful gasoline (turbo) engine. At the moment, he has no direct competitor.

Overall rating (320/420)

  • That it is rated lower than the recently tested and rated Renault Scenic and Toyota Verso in terms of 3008 points is only a reflection of its uniqueness. This is an atypical representative of the classic car class, so it is special.

  • Exterior (12/15)

He is cute to most eyes. We have no comments on the products.

  • Interior (102/140)

The work done by the engineers who made life with the 3008 simple, comfortable and spacious.

  • Engine, transmission (49

    / 40)

The occasional hum of the drive wheels for traction spoils the impression made by the excellent engine and good chassis.

  • Driving performance (53

    / 95)

Compared to classic minivans, crosswind sensitivity is better known, otherwise the 3008 feels equally well.

  • Performance (31/35)

An excellent engine brings a set of points that can be solved in the fight against "competition".

  • Security (40/45)

Five EuroNCAP stars, six airbags / curtains, isofix mounts and poor braking distances.

  • Economy

Fuel consumption is highly dependent on driving style, but 1.6 THP can also be economical. Two-year warranty only.
