Toll roads in Russia 2014 their cost and location

Toll roads for Russia are still a new phenomenon, but many drivers are beginning to understand the advantages of toll roads over conventional ones:

• good road-coated;
• the maximum permitted speed is 130-150 km/h;
• rapid response of road services to any accidents and bad weather conditions;
• free towing services are provided.

At the moment, there are not so many paid segments in our country:

• highway M4 "Don" - in the Moscow and Lipetsk regions there are small sections, for which you will have to pay money, intensive construction is also underway on new sections of this overpass;
• part of the bypass route in St. Petersburg, 8 kilometers long;
• on the routes leading to Latvia and Belarus and passing through the Pskov region.

The total length of paid sections is still small and amounts to just over three hundred kilometers. The construction of a new Moscow-St. Petersburg toll road is being intensively carried out, and sections on the M4 and other federal roads, which are also planned to be made toll, are being reconstructed.

The fare for cars is:

• 10 rubles during the day and 30 at night for the passage of the 8-kilometer section of the Western Diameter in St. Petersburg;
• 1 ruble per kilometer on M4 toll sections in the Moscow and Lipetsk regions - 23 and 55 rubles, respectively;
• approximately 5 rubles per kilometer on toll road sections in the Pskov region.

For freight transport, the fare depends on the tonnage and number of axles and the presence of a trailer or semi-trailer and can reach up to 17 rubles per kilometer.

Payment is made in various ways:

• cash at the checkpoint;
• through special terminals with bank and smart cards;
• using stickers with a magnetic film on the windshield;
• using transponders - small devices for contactless payment.

The problem of toll roads, especially sections on the M4, is long traffic jams in front of the payment points at the height of the summer and holiday seasons, when hundreds of thousands of Muscovites go to their dachas or south to Rostov.
