Why the machine is shocking and how to fix it
Content
Probably, every car owner was faced with a situation when, when exiting and touching the car body, he was electrocuted. In most cases, this is not dangerous, but it is still unpleasant. Why can a car shock its owner?
Why does the car shock
There is nothing supernatural here and everything can be explained by the laws of physics. This happens due to the accumulation of a charge of static electricity, and it is formed due to the electrification of such elements:
- car body;
- clothes;
- covers or seat upholstery.
In spring and summer, the car is more likely to be electrocuted, since electrification occurs more intensely with low air humidity. Such a discharge, although not very pleasant, is absolutely safe for a healthy person.
On the body of a car, static electricity accumulates from its friction with air. This usually happens while driving, but it also happens in a parking lot under the influence of the wind. When a person touches the body, for example, when closing a door, the charges of the body and body are equalized and an electric shock occurs. Clothes or covers may also be the reason. During their friction, a static charge also accumulates and the described process is repeated.
Another reason for this problem is a car malfunction. If the electrical wiring is damaged, the wires can be exposed and come into contact with metal parts of the body. The machine turns into a large capacitor and when touching its body, a person receives a noticeable electric shock.
Arcing does not cause an overvoltage unless inductance is included in the circuit. It is dangerous when high-voltage wires, ignition coil winding and relay are exposed.

How to solve a problem
There are several ways to effectively deal with electric shocks when touching certain parts of the car. When it hits when it touches the outer parts of the car, for example, handles, bodywork and others, then to eliminate the problem, you must perform the following steps:
- visit the service station. Recommended for frequent and severe static electricity shocks caused by wiring faults. They will carry out diagnostics, establish and eliminate the cause. If you have enough knowledge and time, then you can independently check the health of all wires;
- install antistatic strips. It is enough to purchase them at any auto shop and fix them on the rear bumper.An anti-static strip is installed on the rear bumper
When it shocks while touching the internal elements of the car, for example, the steering wheel, gear lever and others, then the following must be done:
- pay attention to the interior trim. The easiest solution is to buy seat covers. They must be antistatic, if the interior is leather, then such problems do not arise;
- adjust the wardrobe. Try not to wear clothes made of fabrics that accumulate static electricity (wool, silk, natural fur, synthetics);
- if you don't want to change your wardrobe, use special sprays to treat upholstery and clothing. They help minimize the chance of electricity buildup;Treating the upholstery with an anti-static spray minimizes the potential for electrical buildup
- periodically carry out wet cleaning of the interior. The higher the humidity, the less electricity will build up.
To minimize the chance of electric shock when exiting the car, first touch any metal part with your hand before opening the doors and standing on the ground.

When a problem such as an electric shock when touching a car appears, it is imperative to find the cause and eliminate it. To some people, it may seem like a trifle, but it is very unpleasant for children, and in some cases a spark that appears can even lead to a car fire.
