Why you need to change the wiper blades in the car much less often than you think

Spring has come to the central region of Russia - the time of puddles, streams and an eternally dirty windshield. "Omyvayka" constantly ends, "wipers" do not cope, and "triplex" remains dirty. Most drivers will attribute the problem to worn-out wiper blades, but in three out of four cases, buying new ones will not solve the problem. Why, explains the portal "AvtoVzglyad".

Winter, having waved goodbye to the final snowfall, "goes to the chest" at least until October, and the long-awaited warmth is knocking on the windows of the entire central strip. Hooray, it's finally spring! However, the morning joy from an unbuttoned jacket and a hat removed will quickly be replaced by sadness from an instantly dirty windshield. And the stocks of “anti-freeze” in the garage are melting, because the season of a free washer from the tap is just around the corner.

But it’s too early to switch to water, no one has yet canceled night frosts, so you have to buy a new canister every day and still drive with half the possible view. Most often, the “scapegoat” in such a situation is the wiper brushes, which, according to the vast majority of drivers, have worn out to holes over the winter.

Alas, there is no “squeaker” or any other wear sensor on them - ingenious R&D from the editors of the AvtoVzglyad portal for manufacturers - therefore, completely still alive “wipers” are sent to the garage shelf, and new ones are purchased in return. Which, however, do not solve the problem. After all, it is not in them!

The fact is that the key to the solution lies not in the brush itself, but in the leash that presses it to the windshield. Yes, yes, during the winter, dirt can accumulate in it, and the “force of attraction” will decrease. However, simple washing and cleaning will only help in one case out of ten, because most often the spring is slightly stretched. An old grandfather's trick will help here: just tighten the turns with a plastic clamp or wire. So the glass will be much cleaner.

However, the car fleet in Russia has not become younger in recent years, no matter which side the statistics are. For the lion's share of motorists, dexterity with a coupler of turns will not help - the spring has globally stretched. Welcome to the store If we were all rich, sure. Only now things are different, the belts are only being tightened, and there are no indulgences in sight. This means that we will be smarter and find an opportunity to save money even in such a seemingly hopeless case.

No sooner said than done: we remove the spring from the seats with a screwdriver, and this must be done carefully and with gloves, otherwise there may be very unpleasant and painful damage. After we clamp it in a vice - you don’t have it, you can find it with a neighbor in the garage cooperative - and bend the hook of the spring hook. You can use either a hammer, or any brave courage - who is rich in what.

Such a simple and absolutely free trick will allow you to revive the previous performance of the wiper blades, extending the life of the leashes for another couple of years. By the way, look at the previous wipers, because they are likely to be better preserved than the current ones. At the time of their "work cycle" we were all much more generous.
