Why Webasto does not start

The main wear of the internal combustion engine occurs at the time of start-up, and in the winter season the engine may not start at all. Therefore, the function of heating the coolant before starting can significantly extend its service life.

Webasto allows you to completely solve such problems, but only on the condition that such a system works without problems.

Why Webasto does not start, as well as ways to fix the problem yourself will be discussed in this article.

The device and the principle of operation

In order for the engine heater to work without problems, it is necessary to ensure that the following parts are in good condition:

  • electronic control unit;
  • the combustion chamber;
  • heat exchanger;
  • circulation pump;
  • fuel pump.

Why Webasto does not start

The principle of operation of the engine heater is as follows:

  1. The fuel is fed into the combustion chamber where it is ignited by a spiral spark plug.
  2. The energy of the flame is transferred to the heat exchanger, in which the coolant circulates.
  3. The intensity of antifreeze heating is regulated by an electronic unit.

Thus, the coolant is heated to operating temperature. The circulation of antifreeze in this mode is carried out exclusively in a small circle.

Webasto malfunctions on a gasoline engine

A common reason that the Webasto will not start is the lack of fuel supply to the combustion chamber. This may be due to a lack of fuel or severe clogging of the pump filter.

If it is not clear why the webasto does not work, you should also inspect the fuel supply hose. If this part is bent somewhere, the fuel will not enter the special combustion chamber.

If Webasto does not turn on at all, the failure of the heater may be due to a malfunction of the control unit. This part is almost impossible to fix in the garage, so you will have to go to a specialized workshop to repair the car.

If a problem occurs in the heating system, the system generates a fault message.

  1. If a mini-timer is set for the control, Webasto error codes will be displayed on the screen in the form of the letter F and two numbers.
  2. If the switch is set, heater errors will be indicated by a flashing light (flash code). After turning off the heater, the operation indicator light will emit 5 short beeps. After that, the light bulb will emit a certain number of long beeps. The number of long beeps will be the error code.

Why Webasto does not start

It is impossible to completely eliminate Webasto errors without special hardware and software.

On some models of a free-standing heater, it is possible to reset errors without using a computer.

To do this, the device must be completely disconnected from the power source. To safely de-energize the heater electronics, carefully disassemble the control unit and remove the central fuse. Often, after performing this operation, it is possible to completely reset the error on the device and restore its performance.

If Webasto does not start from the timer, the complete power off of the control unit solves the problem. To turn on the heater correctly after a reset, the correct time must be set.

These are the main reasons for gasoline, but Webasto diesels may not start.

Diesel problems

Diesel engines equipped with a heater system may also be subject to Webasto malfunctions.

The reasons why this happens are almost the same as breakdowns in gasoline engines. But most often such a nuisance occurs due to poor-quality fuel. A large amount of impurities in diesel fuel form a layer on the candle, so over time, the ignition of the fuel may completely stop, or the heating system will work very unstable.

Why Webasto does not start

In severe frosts, Webasto may not start due to the lack of ignition from diesel fuel.

If summer fuel is not replaced with winter fuel in time, then a temperature of minus 7 degrees Celsius is enough to prevent the engine from starting. Winter diesel fuel can also freeze, but only at lower temperatures.

If the spark plug on a diesel engine fails, a complete replacement of the combustion chamber will be required. Buying a new spark plug is next to impossible, but if you can find used parts for sale, you can get your heater working relatively cheaply.

Of course, when using used spark plugs, it is impossible to guarantee stable operation of the system, but a new complete system will be quite expensive.

Tips and Tricks

After some summer downtime, Webasto may also not start or be unstable. Not always such "behavior" of the heater can be caused by a malfunction.

Why Webasto does not start

  1. If the system turns off after a short period of operation, the situation can often be resolved by fully opening the valve on the stove. Given that the heater is installed in a small circle of the cooling system, without the internal heater turned on, the liquid can quickly overheat, and the automation will cut off the fuel supply to the combustion chamber.
  2. If failures in the autonomy of Webasto are observed too often, and at the same time the system is already more than 10 years old, replacing the fuel pump with a more modern and powerful model allows in many cases to completely restore the stability of the heater
  3. In summer, it is recommended to run Webasto at least once a month. Prolonged downtime in the operation of the heater has an extremely negative effect on its performance.
  4. When replacing antifreeze, it is recommended to remove all possible air plugs in the cooling system. If this is not done, then the operation of the heater may also be unstable.

Conclusion

In many cases, a Webasto breakdown can be fixed by hand. If, after carrying out diagnostic work, it is not clear what to do and how to “resurrect” the system, it is better to seek help from qualified specialists.
