Preparing windshields for the season

Preparing windshields for the season Before you go on a longer route, it is worth checking your car. However, it should be remembered that no less important than checking the oil or air pressure in the wheels is checking the condition of the windshield. After winter, the windshield is very often scratched or has defects, which reduces visibility and driving safety.

A damaged, non-working windshield not only contributes to reduced driving comfort, but can also be real. Preparing windshields for the seasona threat, as well as causing a fine or even loss of a registration certificate. Each defect significantly reduces the strength of the glass - in the event of an accident, the airbag has nothing to rely on, which means it does not provide safety at all.

Most damage occurs in winter. This is due to frequent scratching, using wipers on an icy windshield, and exposure to salt and sand.

Inspection of the condition of the glasses must be done every year, after the winter season, or every 10 XNUMX. kilometers, - advises Jaroslaw Kuczynski, NordGlass expert, - you can do it yourself or contact a professional service. The specialists of our points carry out such a check free of charge.

If we decide to test the glass ourselves, there are a few things to keep in mind. The first element is the transparency score. If the clean glass is grey, dull or less transparent, it is a sign of wear. In this case, it can only be replaced. The same is true for scratches. They are most often the result of poor condition wipers or an improper cleaning method (such as a stiff brush). This will require replacing not only the windshield, but, most likely, the wipers.

Chips and scratches are easiest to spot on the outside of the car. Accuracy of inspection is extremely important, because even a small damage reduces the strength of the glass and can increase rapidly. A small chip (up to 24 mm, i.e. not exceeding the size of a five-zloty coin) is easily repaired in a professional service, such repairs take about 20 minutes, and the glass restores its properties.

Cleanliness of glasses is also extremely important on the road. To ensure it, it is worth choosing the latest technology available recently - a hydrophobic coating, otherwise known as an invisible wiper. It is a layer that, when applied to glass, prevents water and dirt from adhering to the glass. As a result, at speeds above 80 km/h, the use of windshield wipers becomes unnecessary. Applying such a coating on the NordGlass website costs 50 PLN.
