We tighten the steering rack on Kalina
I think many owners of Kalina and other front-wheel drive VAZ cars had to deal with such a problem when there is a strong knock while driving on rubble or gravel, or on a broken dirt road. And these sounds are heard from the steering rack.
To fix this problem, it is enough to spend about 15 minutes of time and have several keys with you:
- Key for 13
- 10 head with a knob
- Special key for tightening the steering rack
Since getting to the rail is not so easy, the first step is to remove the battery:
And then completely remove the platform on which the battery is installed:
And only after that there is access to the steering rack, and even then, it is extremely inconvenient to do all this. But it is quite real, it is enough just to crawl under the bottom of the rail with your hand and feel the rubber plug there, and pull it out:
That's how it looks:
Then take the key and try to crawl it up and put it on the inside of the nut, which needs to be tightened. It is located approximately here:
Turn the key slightly, at least half a turn at first, so as not to overtighten. Try to drive and listen for a knock when driving. If the rail is overtightened, it can bite the steering wheel when cornering, so test the car at low speed so that there are no snacks when driving and when the steering wheel is completely turned at speed.

Why remove the plug? It covers the hole for installing the indicator foot when adjusting on the table. By car and with a plug, everything is perfectly regulated.
