The car made a very good impression on the observer, he even said that this is a car that BMW and Mercedes were supposed to produce 5 years ago. And there's something about that: the move could undermine the wings of Tesla, which is conquering the world with the Model 3 today.

Test: Polestar 2 - lively, fast, comfortable, well-tuned

According to Autgefühl, this is a classic passenger car, but with some crossover features such as a black chassis and wheel arches with black edges. All media in Europe tested the car with the optional Performance package, which costs an additional 4,5 thousand euros and includes:

Key, interior, Android Automotive OS

The car key is a typical Volvo cuboid. The black plastic looks pretty cheap, maybe in the future it will be equipped with chrome inserts. On the other hand, the rear-view mirrors looked great - they had minimal bezels.

The front door is upholstered in plastic, fabric and (synthetic?) Leather. It is the same in the salon: the materials are quite soft, they are not made cheap. Myself the interior is aesthetic and typical for this class, but not as austere as in the Tesla Model 3. - is associated more with classic models, including, of course, Volvo.

The Harman Kardon audio system delivers rich surround sound.

Polestar 2 is the world's first car to use the Android Automotive OS. The Autogefuehl reviewer was delighted with its readability, and in fact: this is not an automotive internal combustion interface, in which "liters" were replaced by "kWh", but a motley accumulated over a dozen years. This is a new elegant user interface that makes everything clear at a glance.

The way the information is presented shows the hand of experienced UX designers and years of Google developer practice. The Voice Assistant (= Google Assistant) worked flawlessly when it came to routing or launching music. Expect it to work the same as the same mechanism on Android.

With the Performance Package, the car looks like a sporty one, so the reviewer recommended starting a test drive of the Polestar 2 with 19-inch wheels and normal suspension. The Polestar 2 accelerated well in all speed ranges, and the noise level had to be close to the competition. By listening to the reviewer raise his voice, we can risk something claim that the car is quieter than the Tesla Model 3 - especially at speeds above 120 km / h.

The energy consumption at a speed of 100 km / h was 17 kWh / 100 km. (170 Wh / km), which with a battery with a usable capacity of 72,5 kWh means 426 kilometers of maximum range. The test at 100 km / h more or less reflects the values ​​that can be expected in mixed mode, that is, when driving in city and suburban areas.

When driving only in urban areas, expect values ​​close to those determined by the WLTP procedure.

Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3

In our opinion, the Polestar 2 is more visually appealing than the Tesla, but it's also smaller and heavier. Autogefuehl recalled that the car is slower and uses more power than the Model 3, so it is technologically behind in some respects. Its problem is also the lack of charging infrastructure - Polestar is forced to rely on the stations of other operators, Tesla has its own Superchger.

Polestar 2 has the advantage of the better materials used in the interior, and it can also benefit from a Google-based multimedia system that is so easy to read for Android phone owners.
