The lacquer coating protects the body sheet from corrosion and performs an aesthetic function. Any loss of paint we must immediately replace, and our laziness and procrastination will only lead to more damage. We can do repairs on our own or entrust it to specialists. The first option is cheap and time-consuming, the second is convenient, but much more expensive.

The procedure for repair depends on the type of damage. The easiest way to remove not very deep scratches and small chips. We can repair such damage ourselves. We have to put in a lot more effort if there are already blisters.

Minor damage to the lacquer, such as that caused by stone impact, can be repaired. You should try to replenish the varnish on a regular basis, because after a few months, minor damage will turn into large chips that require the intervention of a varnisher. And this significantly increases the costs, because very often the entire element is varnished, and even, in the case of some colors, the so-called. shade adjacent elements so that there is no difference in shade. The effectiveness and therefore the visibility of retouching depends largely on the type of varnish and color. Single-layer and light varnishes withstand retouching much better, and retouches of two-layer, metallic and pearly varnishes look much worse.

To eliminate chips, special skills or expensive tools are not required. All you need is a small amount of polish and a small brush. If only the outer layer is damaged, it is enough to apply the correct color, and when the damage reaches the sheet metal, it is necessary to protect the base with a primer. We can buy paint in almost any car shop and even in a hypermarket, but then the color will only look like ours. However, in authorized workshops, after entering the paint number, the touch-up color will be the same as the body color. Retouch polish comes in a handy container with a brush or even a miniature wire brush. The price ranges from 20 to 30 zł for about 10 ml. Small amounts of paint needed for touch-ups can also be ordered from paint mixing shops. The price for 100 ml is about PLN 25. Fewer companies do not want to work. We do not advise you to buy ready-made aerosol varnish, because you will definitely not be able to find the perfect color. In addition, a jet of paint makes you paint over a large piece and does not look very aesthetically pleasing. The effect is much better after touching up with a brush.

Repair of large damage to the paintwork is best left to specialists. We are not able to professionally repair them ourselves, because this requires knowledge and a specialized tool. It may turn out that the end result will not satisfy. However, if we decide to repair ourselves, we start by removing the corrosion. You have to do this very carefully, because the durability of the repair largely depends on this action. The next step is laying the sleeper. We only have spray paint at our disposal, because a professional gun is expensive and requires compressed air. Then apply putty and, after drying, sand until a smooth and even surface is obtained. If irregularities remain, apply putty again or even another time. Then again the primer and the surface is ready for varnishing. Damage repaired in this way will certainly be different from the original, but thanks to the contribution of our own work, we will save a lot of money.
