The new Mclaren GT produces 456kW and 630Nm of torque from its turbocharged 4.0-liter V8.

McLaren has officially unveiled its new GT, which should appear at home before the end of the year.

The Grand Tourer will sit alongside the current McLaren Sports, Super and Ultimate Series models, but is yet to be confirmed for the Australian market.

While the styling is similar to the rest of the McLaren lineup, the GT features longer front and rear overhangs and uses softer engine mounts for a more "sensible" ride.

Considering everyday behavior, the GT also has front and rear departure angles of 10 and 13 degrees, respectively, making it better at navigating roads and bumps than its track-oriented brethren.

The suspension is also road-ready thanks to a new system that combines a lightweight aluminum double wishbone and electronic hydraulic dampers.

Drivers can adjust the suspension using the "Proactive Damping Control" system with three modes: Comfort, Sport and Track.

Practicality is also ensured by a 150-litre front storage compartment, as well as a 420-litre luggage compartment in the boot.

According to McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Fluitt, the GT brings something new to the GT category.

“The new McLaren GT combines competitive performance with the ability to cross continents, wrapped in beautiful bodywork and true to McLaren’s vision of developing ultralight vehicles with a clear weight advantage over rivals,” he said.

“Designed for long-distance travel, it provides the comfort and space expected of a grand tourer, but with a level of agility never seen before in this segment. In short, this is a car that redefines grand touring in a way that only McLaren can."

The new British sports car is powered by a 4.0kW/8Nm 456-litre twin-turbocharged V603 engine mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission that sends power directly to the rear wheels.

McLaren claims the GT will hit 0 km/h in 100 seconds and have a top speed of 3.2 km/h.

The British marque opted for a more luxurious interior design wrapped in Nappa leather, a 7.0-inch touchscreen display, a digital instrument cluster, climate control, satellite navigation, connectivity and voice recognition.
