Description of devices rcpp DSG-6 02E and 0D9
In 2003, Volkswagen introduced its first wet-clutch preselective robotic gearbox, which was developed in collaboration with BorgWarner. This gearbox was intended for transverse combustion engines with a torque of up to 350 Nm, but has recently been upgraded for installation with diesel power units up to 400 Nm. The version of the box for front-wheel drive models has the index 02E, and for all-wheel drive 0D9.
The design and principle of operation of the 6-speed preselective gearbox DQ250 is described in this video:

Reviews on the RKPP DQ 250 its pros and cons
Advantages:
- Quick and discreet gearshifts
- A car with a manual transmission is more economical than with an automatic
- Repair mastered by many auto repair shops
- Low cost of a secondary donor
Disadvantages:
- Not a very good dual-mass flywheel
- Problems when combined with powerful internal combustion engines
- A modest resource for a clutch kit
- Requires very frequent oil changes
RKPP maintenance schedule 02E and 0D9
The gearbox requires regular renewal of the lubricant, preferably at least once every 50 km. In total, there are 000 liters of original G 7.2 052 A182 oil in the box, but 2 liters will be enough for a replacement. If you have an all-wheel drive car, then do not forget to change the G 5.5 052 S145 oil in the transfer case.
To service the robotic box, you may need some consumables:
Oil filter (original) | item 02E 305 051 C |
Oil filter gasket | item N 910 845 01 |
Drain plug | item N 902 154 04 |
Plug sealing ring | item N 043 80 92 |
Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the DQ250 box
Like all preselective robots with oil bath clutches, this box suffers from jolts or jerks due to contamination of the solenoid wear products in the mechatronics. The more powerful the power unit is equipped with a gearbox and the more sharply the owners drive, the faster the clutch kit wears out and the hydraulic valves clog.
When combined with very powerful engines, and especially after aggressive chip tuning, the differential in this box can collapse, and already at a run of 50 thousand km. Often, at the same time, the gears of the shafts wear out and their seats are broken.
At the ends of the shafts of the robotic gearbox there are rotation sensor drive disks. Due to the magnetization, they collect metal chips and then the sensors go blind. The same problem here applies to the position sensors for the gear shift forks.
In the early years of production, these robots were equipped with a weak dual-mass flywheel, which quickly began to vibrate, which led to the destruction of the clutch.
You can also encounter a failure of the gearbox control board due to overheating and wear on the gears due to a lubricant supply tube clogged with wear products to the shaft.
The manufacturer declared the DQ250 gearbox resource at 220 km, but this robot also serves 000 km.
