Priora does not start well on hot or cold

Engine problems can appear suddenly. The very “control” that is displayed on the dashboard at the most inconvenient moment makes a person immediately plan the next diagnostics and repairs.

Find out in the article why Priora starts and stalls: there are three reasons for this, the first is, of course, the fuel pump. Fuel delivery problems can be intimidating when trying to start the car, but it's all smooth sailing. There is also a problem with the fuel system, or rather its regulator, when the Priora starts up just as badly, although the sensor is also involved here. In general, in this article I have collected for you the main breakdowns due to which the car does not start, come on!

The reasons why Priora starts and stalls - what to watch

It happens that the car engine starts, and then immediately stalls. This means that all the initial processes are running, but it is not possible to “twist” them so that the engine runs normally. For example, you can hear the starter turning, but the Priora will not start.

The holder grabs, but the Priora does not start. This is a clear indication that the starter is sending power to the crankshaft and some other part is not performing its start cycle actions. For this reason, when starting and stopping Priora, several systems are checked, which start working earlier than others, starting the engine. Priora has been in operation for a long time for several reasons:

  • The fuel pump creates insufficient pressure in the fuel system. It happens like this: the starter starts to turn the crankshaft, the spark comes from the candles, but they simply have nothing to ignite - the fuel has not risen yet.
  • Ignition coil coils are damaged. A responsible task was assigned to the coil: to convert the current from the battery into current for the operation of the candle. Again: fuel is supplied, the crankshaft is moving, but there will be no ignition. Here it is worth checking the candles: with soot, they can also give such an effect.
  • Inlet line clogged or leaking. That is, the problem is not in the high-pressure fuel pump, but in the next "stage" of fuel supply to the chamber. It is recommended to blow out the filter.

Why Lada Priora won't start - reasons

There are two cases when the car does not start at all: the starter works or not. Both cases are negative, but the difference is that the symptoms to listen for and look for are slightly different. If the Priora starter does not turn, it is recommended to check the following points:

  • The battery may be discharged. Charge it up, or if you're short on time, borrow a working battery from a friend to test your hunch.
  • The battery terminals or cable terminals are oxidized. Check, feel the contacts and lubricate them with petroleum jelly. Finally, check the tightness of the terminals and tighten them if necessary.
  • Jammed the engine or other machine components. This can be caused by the crankshaft, alternator pulley, or pump. We'll have to check everything.
  • The starter is broken, damaged or worn inside: transmission gear, flywheel crown teeth. To determine the malfunction, you will need to disassemble it, and then disassemble it; only inspection of the pieces can confirm the hypothesis. It is not always necessary to change the starter, it is enough to install a new part inside.
  • Malfunctions in the starter switching circuit. You will have to first diagnose while driving, and then look manually. In most cases, the culprits are rusty or loose wiring, relays, and the ignition switch.
  • Starter relay failure. The diagnostic mechanism does not differ from the previous version - turn the key to the second position, there should be clicks. The relay clicks, this is normal starter operation.
  • Poor contact with the "minus", the wires or contacts of the traction relay are oxidized. You will hear a click, but the starter will not turn. It is necessary to ring the entire system, and then clean at the joints, tighten the terminals.
  • Short circuit or open circuit of the holding winding of the traction relay. If so, you need to replace the starter relay. Instead of a click, a creak will be heard when the key is turned, and the relay itself must be checked with an ohmmeter or felt, assessing the degree of heating.
  • The problem is inside: armature winding, collector, starter brush wear. It is necessary to disassemble the starter and diagnose the battery, and then with a multimeter.

    The freewheel runs slowly. The armature will rotate, but the flywheel will remain in place.

Also, the VAZ-2170 may not scroll the starter - when you don’t hear anything at all when you turn the key in the ignition. This case is associated with the following issues:

  • You ran out of gas or your battery is dead. A hackneyed starter has nowhere to get power to start. If the battery is low, you will hear a crackling sound when you try to start the engine. And the fuel pump cannot pump fuel into the chamber. On the dashboard, the needle of the fuel gauge will be at zero.
  • Corroded cables, battery terminals or connections are not tight enough. You need to clean the contacts and then check how well the connections fit.
  • Mechanical damage to the crankshaft (when scratched, cracks appear, chips appear in the bearing shells, shafts, engine or generator oil freezes, the antifreeze pump wedges). First you need to change the oil in the engine and inspect the axle shafts for damage, then change the generator and pump.
  • No spark comes out. To create a spark, a coil and candles work. It is necessary to check these elements by diagnosing their work, and then replace the defective parts.
  • Incorrect connection of high voltage cables. You will have to check all connections, adjust or fix what is already set incorrectly.
  • The timing belt has broken (or worn out when the belt teeth have worn out). The only solution is to replace the belt.
  • Valve timing error. Inspect the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys, then correct their position.
  • Computer error. First, check the access of the electrical network to the computer and sensors. If everything is connected correctly, the control unit will need to be replaced.
  • The idle speed controller is unstable. Corrected by replacing the corresponding sensor. Check the fuses and relays under the steering column.
  • Fuel system contamination. Check filter, pump, piping and tank outlet.
  • Deterioration of the fuel pump and, as a result, insufficient pressure inside the system.
  • The injectors are worn out. Its windings need to ring with an ohmmeter and check the circuit as a whole.
  • The air supply to the engine is difficult. Assess the condition of the hoses, clamps and air filter.

It starts badly on a cold - reasons

If the Priora does not start in the morning, it is quite annoying. When the car has cooled down due to too low a temperature, the reasons that the engine will not start may be:

  • Hardened engine oil or dead battery. As a result, the crankshaft will rotate very slowly.
  • The water in the gutter could freeze, then the fuel system would literally stop. Separately, pay attention to the gasoline that you refuel; if there is a lot of water left after, you need to change the dressing.
  • The coolant temperature sensor is broken (the ECU will not be able to regulate its temperature). The oxygen sensor may also be broken.
  • Leaking fuel injectors.
  • Cylinder pressure is low.
  • The engine control system is defective.

Run diagnostics on the ignition module.

Won't start hot - what to watch

It would seem that the car is already warmed up and nothing prevents you from calmly starting the engine and getting to work. This type of problem includes the reasons why the starter does not rotate. Also check the following:

  1. fuel pressure control;
  2. crankshaft position sensor.

If it stalled on the go, what is it

First of all, when Priora stops abruptly with the engine running, check if you have pressed the clutch pedal; perhaps you were distracted by something, not realizing how you removed your foot. But usually the car stops when the accelerator pedal is released while driving. The symptoms of the problem are as follows:

  • increased fuel consumption, air consumption;
  • injection takes longer (engine cycle lengthens over time);
  • idle speed controller works with a delay;
  • voltage fluctuates.

The reasons that the Priora stalled on the move may be:

  1. low-quality gasoline;
  2. sensor error (incorrect readings when releasing gas), most often an idle speed control sensor;
  3. throttle error.
