Buying a used Mercedes-Benz often leads many drivers to consider certified pre-owned options. Mercedes-Benz is one of the many manufacturers that have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO). Each car manufacturer builds its CPO program differently; read on to learn about the features of the Mercedes-Benz CPO program.

To be considered a Mercedes-Benz Certified Used Vehicle, vehicles must be under five years old and have less than 75,000 miles on them. These vehicles are backed by a 12-month certified limited warranty with unlimited mileage.

Inspection

To ensure that every Mercedes-Benz certified used vehicle is safe to drive, every vehicle must pass a 164-point test, which includes:

  • Checking the engine compartment
  • Checking Engine Components
  • Checking electrical systems
  • Transmission check
  • body examination
  • Road test
  • Checking and detailing the interior and exterior

If something does not meet the high standards of Mercedes-Benz technicians, it needs to be corrected. If it cannot be repaired and meets factory standards, the vehicle cannot become a Mercedes-Benz Certified Used Vehicle.

Warranty

Mercedes-Benz CPO vehicles are covered by a warranty that covers the repair or replacement of any part that fails under normal use within the first 12 months. The warranty does not limit the number of miles a vehicle can show for coverage. The warranty does not require a deductible for each service visit.

It also includes additional benefits such as:

  • XNUMX/XNUMX roadside assistance that includes free jump start services, flat tire changes and emergency fuel delivery.
  • Trip interruption coverage that reimburses the vehicle owner for up to $300 per day for three days if your vehicle breaks down more than 100 miles from home.

Prices

Customers who choose to purchase a vehicle through the Mercedes-Benz Certified Used Car Program will see the difference in overall profits. The price will typically be about 7.5% higher than a typical "used" Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

For example: At the time of this writing in April 2016, a used 2012 Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan in Kelley Blue Book was worth about $33,707; the same car under the Mercedes-Benz CPO program costs about $36,262.

Compare Mercedes-Benz to other CPO programs

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
