Many drivers who are looking for a used Plymouth want to consider a certified used car or CPO. CPO programs allow used car owners to drive with confidence knowing their vehicle has been inspected and repaired by professionals before hitting the lot. These vehicles usually come with an extended warranty and other benefits such as roadside assistance.

Plymouth does not currently offer a certified used car program because it is currently no longer in operation and its models are too old to be covered by parent company Chrysler. Read on to find out more about Plymouth.

history of the company

The Plymouth was founded in 1928 by the Chrysler Corporation as the first "inexpensive" car comparable to the Chevrolet and Ford offerings of the day. Plymouth has been one of the best selling brands throughout its history, especially during the Great Depression era when it surpassed even Ford in terms of competitiveness.

Throughout the 1960s, the Plymouth brand became known for its "muscular" cars such as the 1964 Barracuda and the Road Runner. However, over time, Plymouth began to produce vehicles that could no longer be easily identified; their brand began to overlap with others such as Dodge. Several remarketing attempts failed, and by the late 1990s, Plymouth had only four models that were still heavily marketed.

2001 was Plymouth's last production year, with its iconic Prowler and Voyager models being adopted by the Chrysler brand. The last model produced under the Plymouth brand was the Neon.

Used Plymouth value.

Buyers who still want to own a Plymouth vehicle can purchase used Plymouths from dealers. At the time of this writing in April 2016, a used 2001 Plymouth Neon was priced between $1,183 and $2,718 in the Kelley Blue Book. Although used vehicles have not been tested as certified used vehicles and do not come with the extended warranty offered for CPO vehicles, it is still a valid option for those who wish to drive a Plymouth.

In any case, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it, as any used vehicle can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
