Laws and Permits for Disabled Drivers in New York

In New York State, disability license plates and plaques are issued to people with permanent or temporary disabilities. You can get disability numbers in case of permanent or temporary disability. Permission types

Getting permission

Disabled Veterans

If you are a disabled veteran, you will need to submit an Application for Military and Veterans Customs Numbers (MV-412) along with proof of disability.

Renewals

All disabled parking permits are subject to renewal and their expiration dates will vary. Permanent renewal varies by jurisdiction. Temporary permits are valid for six months. The plates are good for the duration of your check-in.

Lost permissions

If you lose your permit or it is stolen, you will need to contact your clerk's office for a replacement. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may need to reapply.
