Buying a used Porsche often leads many drivers to consider certified pre-owned options. Porsche is one of the many manufacturers that have a Certified Used Car Program (CPO). Each car manufacturer builds its CPO program differently; read on to learn more about the features of the Porsche CPO program.

To be considered a Porsche-certified used car, cars must be under eight years old and have less than 100,000 miles on them. These vehicles are backed by a certified 24 month or 50,000 mile limited warranty.

Inspection

To make sure that every Porsche-certified used car is safe on the road, every vehicle must pass an MOT with over 111 points, which includes the same mechanical and body standards that all new Porsche vehicles follow. If the vehicle fails this test, or cannot be repaired in such a way that it passes, it cannot be considered a candidate for Porsche CPO vehicle status.

Warranty

Porsche CPO vehicles come with a warranty that covers repair or replacement within the first 24 months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty does not require a deductible for each service visit. This is in addition to the original six-year warranty, which covers the vehicle for six years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, from the original sale date. The warranty covers the following parts:

  • ENGINES
  • Fuel system and cooling system
  • Powertrain and transmission
  • Suspension and steering
  • Brake system
  • Electrical system
  • Heating and Air Conditioning
  • Chassis
  • Electronics

In case of problems with any of these areas, the guarantee covers 100% of the cost of labor and materials.

Prices

Customers who choose to purchase a vehicle through the Porsche Certified Used Car program will see the difference in total profits. The price will typically be around 11% higher than a typical "used" Porsche car.

For example: At the time of this writing in April 2016, a used 2012 Porsche Cayman was worth about $40,146 in the Kelley Blue Book; the same car under the Porsche CPO program costs about $44,396.

Compare Porsche to other certified used car programs.

Whether or not you choose to use a CPO vehicle, it is always wise to have any used vehicle inspected by an independent certified mechanic before purchasing it. A certified used car does not mean that the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can have serious problems that are not visible to the untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for complete peace of mind.
