Injector programming: utility and method
In modern vehicles, replacing injectors is sometimes not limited to simple disassembly / reassembly. In fact, as injection systems become more precise, computer controlled, it is sometimes necessary to tune the latter so that it knows how to use them. It's like you have to have pilots / drivers for new stuff on your computer, you have to tell the injection computer about it.
Injector coding: why?
An injector is simply a small orifice that opens and closes for short periods of time and then lets in more or less fuel depending on the duration of the opening, its calibration, and the technology (piezo or solenoid). But these periods of time are so short and the doses are so small that the piloting of the nozzles must be carried out with the utmost precision. And in order for the computer to determine the fuel dosage as accurately as possible, it is necessary to specify the characteristics of the injector. He can't figure it out on his own...
In addition, even two injectors of the same production will not deliver exactly the same flow, so the code allows for a little compensation for this, like the weight we put on your tires for balancing (it is impossible to make a perfectly balanced tire for its entire perimeter).
Note, however, that the presence of the coding nozzles is not systematic, and therefore there is nothing else in this case but to swap them.
You will also understand that in the case where we have coded injectors, it is not necessary to replace all injectors in case of a problem with one or more of them (many mechanics say that it is preferable to replace all of them, even if there is only one problem. This discussion continues).
How to code an injector?
This requires a suitcase (computer + vehicle OBD compatible software) and an OBD connection to communicate with the computer (to make “adjustments”).
Then you need to install the new injector in place. We then mark the injector number (1 to 4 on the small 4-cylinder in-line engine, and therefore 18 on the Chiron) to identify it. Finally, using the case, the new characteristics of the corresponding injector must be indicated in the computer by means of a code, a kind of key that resembles a Wi-Fi code.
This code contains characteristics that the computer can decode.
A consequence of uncoded injectors?
If you don't update your computer, there is no risk, but it can result in a small loss of engine efficiency.

Good morning ! Here I changed the injectors on a Golf V 1.9 TDI 105, except that this one “scratches” at idle, otherwise no power loss, does it need to be coded? thank you in advance
