Flushing the engine before changing the oil - how does a clean system work?
The purpose of the engine lubrication system is to provide a continuous supply of lubrication to the moving parts, to avoid the interaction of dry elements. This system protects parts from rust, removes waste. The principle of operation is as follows: the oil pump sucks the composition out of the sump, it enters the filter under pressure, then the oil is cleaned, then it is cooled in the radiator and then enters the oil channel. On it, the composition moves to the crankshaft, then to the connecting rod journals.
From the intermediate gear, oil moves into the block's standing channel, then flows down the rods and has a lubricating effect on the pushers and cams. The spraying method lubricates the cylinder and piston walls, timing gears. The oil is sprayed into droplets. They lubricate all parts, then drain to the bottom of the crankcase, a closed system appears. A pressure gauge is needed to control the amount of fluid pressure in the main line.
Flushing the engine oil system - what kind of lubrication mechanism do we have?
Flushing the engine before changing the oil and changing this chemistry itself are necessary. Here it is important to take into account the individual "health" of the car, the frequency and manner of driving. Factors affecting the need for an oil change and engine flush: this time of year, fuel quality, operating conditions. As severe conditions, one can name a simple machine, prolonged engine idling, frequent overloads.
There are several types of lubrication system:
- with oil supply by spraying method;
- with its constant supply under pressure;
- with a combined delivery method.
The first system is very simple in its structure. Lubrication of parts during engine rotation is carried out by crank heads of connecting rods with special scoops. But there is a drawback here: on uphill and downhill slopes, this system is ineffective, because the quality of the lubrication depends on the level of oil in the crankcase and on the inclination of its sump. For this reason, this system is not widely used. As for the second system, the principle here is as follows: oil is supplied under pressure using a pump. However, this system also did not find much use due to the complexity of manufacturing and operation.
The combined lubrication system for engine parts has a wider application. The name speaks for itself: particularly loaded parts are lubricated by pressure, and less loaded parts are sprayed.
Flushing the engine when changing the oil - recommendations for work
We will analyze the process of replacement and flushing. First, unscrew the plug from the engine and collect the first drops of oil in the dishes. As soon as these drops appear, you need to stop rotating the cork, otherwise the oil will rush out sharply. After fifteen drops, you can continue. Take a close look at the oil: is there metal chips or not, and also pay attention to the color! If it looks like weak coffee with milk added, then water got into it as a result of burning gaskets. Also, don't forget to check the gasket on the cap. If it sticks, it needs to be picked off.
The need to flush the engine before changing the oil does not arise if it is dark in color and the engine, in your opinion, is dirty. Often the motor has large deposits, and the oil still remains transparent.
It must be understood that flushing the engine oil system is a long process. Large deposits cannot be washed away quickly by any washing liquid. We advise you to use ordinary high-quality engine oil, which will allow the engine to idle for five to ten minutes, as well as drive hundreds of kilometers. But if deposits remain after a thousand kilometers left, then you are using low-quality chemistry, replace it.
