Ram EV 2024: A no-design confirmed pickup that already has a big market lead

The electric Ram 1500 will hit the market in 2024, giving it an edge over other electric models like the F-150 Lightning or the GMC Hummer EV. Ram customers will be able to decide what the EV pickup should look like and then start production of the Ram 1500 EV.

Trucks are no longer just diesel and petrol. The Ram 1500 pickup has gone electric! The 1500 Ram 2024 EV is finally here, and it has a pretty significant lead over similar electric trucks. Here's what the all-electric Ram 1500 can do that other trucks can't.

Ram 1500 EV pickup not coming until 2024

It's probably not surprising that the Ram 1500 pickup will get an electric version. Nearly every major automaker has announced plans for an electric pickup to keep up with traditional petrol versions. Ram has confirmed that its first all-electric pickup will go on sale in 2024, but it likely won't be available from dealers for another year.

Last week, Ram CEO Mike Koval confirmed the Ram 1500 EV concept at the New York International Auto Show. Ahead of a 2024 launch, the company plans to show or preview an electric pickup truck sometime this year. Those who are part of EV can preview the electric car even before that.

The Ram Real Talk Tour allows the automaker to talk to consumers about what the cars of the future need. Ram wants to better understand the wishes of its customer base as it develops its next generation of trucks.

The Ram 1500 EV has a big advantage over other electric trucks.

Koval said Ram has a master plan in place to provide customers with the right design for the future line. The Ram 1500 EV featured multiple LED strips on the front and a glowing RAM logo in teaser images released last month. The back of the truck looks similar, with flashy taillights on either end of another flashy logo.

Little else has been known about the latest electric pickup truck to tease the market. Sadly, the Ram electric pickup is slated for a much later release date. Electric trucks will continue to be on the market for two years (if all goes according to plan). Production of the Chevrolet Silverado EV is scheduled for 2023, which is likely still ahead of Ram by a whole year.

On the other hand, it gives the Ram an edge that other electric trucks won't have. It can be adjusted based on customer feedback by releasing the Ram 1500 EV after other trucks have been on the market for a while. Ram will learn what people like and dislike and will be able to tweak some things as needed.

2022 Ram ProMaster Delivery Truck Coming Before Ram 1500 EV

Because of this feedback, the design of the Ram Electric has yet to be set in stone. The automaker has been visiting showrooms in recent months to decide how the all-electric Ram 1500 should look and perform. It will use the same STLA Frame platform as other models in the future. This platform accommodates battery pack sizes from 159 kWh to 200 kWh.

Ram also plans to launch the 2022 Ram ProMaster delivery truck by the end of this year. While the Ram 1500 EV won't be the brand's first all-electric vehicle, it will still be a significant part of the lineup. Stellantis aims to be 100% electric vehicle sales in Europe and 50% in the US by the end of the decade.
