Details revealed about the new Toyota RAV4 PHEV

The plug-in hybrid Toyota RAV4 PHEV (the Japanese also use the abbreviation PHV, and in America the prefix Prime was added to the name) was originally introduced to the US market. Today the car appeared on the Japanese market. Speaking of the right-hand drive version, the company has given more dynamic features. Thus, the description of the model can be supplemented and refined. Power 2.5 A25A-FXS naturally aspirated engine from the Dynamic Force Engine series is 177 hp. and 219 Nm. The front electric motor produces 134 hp. and 270 Nm, and at the rear - the E-Four system - 40 hp. and 121 Nm.

The total power of the THS II hybrid system is 306 hp. From 0 to 100 km / h, the crossover smoothly accelerates in 6 seconds.

The Japanese also revealed the parameters of a lithium-ion battery. This is an element with an operating voltage of 355,2 V and a power of 18,1 kWh (one of the highest values in the history of hybrids). The TGNA architecture (GA-K platform) allows you to mount the battery under the floor in the center of the car.

An important parameter for a hybrid that is charged from the outlet is electric traction without starting the engine. According to the American cycle, RAV4 Prime has 63 km, but for the Japanese version of RAV4 PHEV, the manufacturer indicates 95 km on the global WLTC cycle, adding that this is the best parameter among crossover type plug-ins. In hybrid mode, the average fuel consumption is 4,55 l / 100 km. The gas tank here holds 55 liters, and the total mileage with one refueling and a full tank exceeds 1300 km.

The battery can provide power to external users with power up to 1,5 kW, for example, when traveling outdoors. To do this, there is a contact with 100 volt alternating current in the trunk. In addition, the kit includes a connector that can be connected to an external charging port and used as a home outlet.

External devices can receive energy from the hybrid when the engine is stopped, and when the unit is running (if the battery charge is small). In the second case, a full tank will provide about three days of power with constant external electricity of one and a half kilowatts, which can be useful in the event of an emergency blackout in the house.

Of the other technical points, the heat pump, which is used to heat the passenger compartment and initially raises the temperature of a cold engine, should be mentioned. Such a system saves battery power. The battery itself maintains an optimal temperature balance thanks to the refrigerant from the air conditioner. At the same time, electronics does not allow the use of a traction battery in case of overheating, which extends its service life. It can be charged both from a simple 100-volt contact with a current of 6 A (from 27 hours to 100%), and from 200 Volts. Contact at 16 A (5 hours 30 minutes).

The hybrid comes standard with faux leather seats, a nine-inch audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces and a communications module, all-round surveillance system. There is also a projection display.

Toyota RAV4 PHEV costs in Japan from 4 yen (690 euros). The equipment includes 000-inch alloy wheels. Among the colors, the exclusive shade of Emotional Red II for the PHEV version. The black Attitude film on the roof, mirrors and lower body gives five two-tone combinations. Toyota Safety Sense's standard safety assistance package includes automatic braking (with pedestrian recognition day and night and cyclists throughout the day). We add that after a while the same hybrid RAV38 PHEV system will receive the Lexus NX 000h +.
