Extended Test: Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Executive

See how important hybrid vehicles are to Toyota on their website. The splash screens are listed first, and then the other versions. What's not even strange: the hybrid Toyota Prius started production back in 1997, and since then, sales have only increased. In some states in the US, the Prius has become a hit, and some of the more developed European countries are following this trend.

The record on our standard lap, where we cover the 100 km distance strictly in accordance with the rules of the road (well, hmmm saj. Because we drive like this too) and where the ratio between the highway, the main road and the city is distributed approximately equally. now 2,9 liters. And this is with the air conditioner and radio turned on, make no mistake! This is a high bar for all future economists, so the Prius doesn't have to worry about losing its lead for a long time.

It handles everyday driving much better. I will write my own example that will identify many parents who drive to a big city every day. My path from the periphery to the center of our capital, where the Avto store is located, is seven kilometers, and if you lay down the path home, then only 14 kilometers. Plus the collection and collection of children at the school, which, thank God, accumulates in the summer, plus the store (where, regardless of the time of year, we leave most of the money we earn) - and this saves about 16 kilometers. The extended test plug Toyota Prius, which at the time of the takeover has already covered 43.985 kilometers, is only capable of 18 kilometers tested for electricity. Do you understand?

With rides like the ones I have, I could ride all week on electricity alone!! And that, as we already mentioned, with the air conditioner on and the radio on, which are quite large consumers of electricity, and also on the Ljubljana ring road, where you have to stand behind the slowest trucks. Interestingly, although I thought it would be a ramp, our service garages and a little highway climb, the Prius Plug-in can do it all without the help of a 1,8-litre petrol engine. The only condition is to gently press the accelerator pedal with each acceleration. In practice, this means that you will fall out more in Ljubljana than drivers from Nova Gorica or Murska Sobota, if you understand me, but still ...

In this context, it is also worth considering most of the criticism of this car. If we look at the Prius through the prism of a conventional car, we can easily and immediately attribute to it a chassis that is too soft and too loud, a too indirect and therefore artificial feel both in the steering system and on the brake pedal, too soft seats that more colorful on the skin of richer Americans than skinny Europeans or Asians (although this is unfortunately changing - for the worse, of course), but it's a shame to lose words because of the shape of the steering wheel and switches on it.

It's easy to survive. But if we assume that such a car is always bought by someone who is not in a hurry through life and prefers to follow traffic flows very calmly, then most of these remarks do not matter. It's a car that simply pampers you with sonic comfort when you're driving all-electric, and also when it switches automatically between electric and internal combustion engine gently and almost imperceptibly. The only stipulation is to gently press the accelerator pedal, otherwise the continuously variable transmission gets very loud, and the only consolation is that the electric motor provides a very reassuring jump from a standstill.

But before buying a Prius plug, think about how you will charge it (the cable from the apartment is not the prettiest and not recommended, since the extension cord cannot be used, and the base cable is not quite long), and it is very wise to have at least a canopy if you do not already have one. garage. Then two hours of charging (the battery is almost never fully discharged, as it charges every time you use the engine or brake, and when that is enough, the light next to the outlet on the right side comes on) and the gasoline remains only on weekend trips. the sea or the mountains.

evaluation

  • A plug-in hybrid has many benefits, including a five-year unlimited mileage warranty and even extended hybrid battery protection for up to 10 years, and there are some limitations or darker sides (batteries aren't the greenest). But if you are worried that we are in the grip of oil companies or countries with oil, then you have at least a (partial) solution.

We praise and reproach

fuel consumption

hybrid build work

range with electricity

usability despite additional batteries

chassis is too soft

artificial sensation in the steering system and brake operation

lower transparency in the opposite direction

CVT transmission at full acceleration

too wide front seats

charging from the rain without a canopy and garage
