Thus, new (light) vans enter the market for at most a decade or even longer, and so far they only get “cosmetic repairs” so that the offer remains fresh and buyers do not feel that they have bought old goods. Dive into the shoes of a successful entrepreneur and imagine a parked row of First Generation Masters under your office, which today we can call calm souls, ugly as death.

It doesn't work - the fleet is also part of the company's overall image, so it's only fitting that in 13 years the very popular Renault in our area (in collaboration with Opel and Nissan) will show something new.

Externally, the biggest change is at the front: the elongated, vertically positioned headlights are larger, the engine cooling slots are the same, the Renault logo is more visible. Scratch and minor impact resistant plastic takes up most of the space and has built-in steps to make it easier to clean your windshield. The shape of the whole body is as it is (square) and some new taillights have been provided for some zest.

The interior gives the impression that the designers were mainly looking for additional storage space (and found them too). We've listed 23 of them in the cabin, and another huge box is under the front passenger seat. A useful feature is the folder holder that retract from the middle of the dashboard, for which you will pay 70 euros. We recommend!

Unfortunately, the steering wheel is adjustable only in height, and this is very limited. The seats of the driver and two passengers were upholstered in leather or artificial leather-like material, which gives the passenger compartment an air of prestige (why already?) and makes it easier to clean up spilled coffee, but when we started to feel the buttocks and thighs, it became clear to us - the material is clearly very bad breathes. So we do not recommend!

When looking for a radio screen (or cell phone, since the test machine was equipped with a blue-tine connector), look up towards the center of the ceiling. In addition to the black and white screen, there is also a switch for turning on all four direction indicators, and the screen for displaying events behind the car when reversing was hidden right in the driver's sun blind.

In the cabin, we missed the automatic up and down of the right window, and in sunny weather, the more visible digital part of the instruments, which provides information on service intervals, kilometers traveled, fuel consumption in liters and fuel consumption in liters per hundred. kilometers, average speed and range.

With a 105-litre fuel tank, range is the Master's bright side, as you can get a good thousand miles without stopping for a gas station, with economical gas pressure and empty cargo space. Fuel consumption in the test ranged from 9 to 7 liters per hundred kilometers.

The turbodiesel is a thoroughbred worker, as the useful area is in the lower rpm range, and even at four thousandths, smooth blocking prevents further rotation. It really doesn't make sense to start an engine like this, as it goes 130 km/h at 2.500 rpm, and not even much faster - it pulls up to 140 km/h. The gearbox has six gears, and this is what we used to similar cars: with rather long and not very precise movements.

The reason for the limited top speed and slightly higher consumption lies on the roof, where an aluminum roof rack with a load capacity of 100 kg was additionally installed. This undoubtedly creates additional aerodynamic drag, but it came in handy when unnecessary items had to be stored from the rooftop cargo hold for the duration of a two-day race.

The impression of an otherwise good (solid, segment-friendly) design was shattered by the ingress of water into the cargo hold. Someone superficially installed a gallery on the roof ...

The cargo bay boasts a standing height (the only way is right!), Has a protective and non-slip wooden bottom (€ 290), and enough firmly attached hooks to attach, for example, a motorcycle, which will cost you enough. additional 70 euros.

The good side of the Master is still being tested - it is the ability to park in regular parking spaces. If there is enough room in front for the wheels to touch the curb, then the rear end will not protrude from the painted place at all.

  • In any case, the new Master is not a revolution at all. This is an improved and decorated cargo van that will serve Espeya and Deo as well as its predecessor.
