Restoration pencils

No matter how carefully you drive, it is almost impossible to protect your car from minor defects on the body. Scratches and chips received from branches, wires, stones flying out from under the tires and other objects create a not very attractive aesthetic appearance. But in addition to visually unpleasant flaws in the exterior, defects in the paintwork surface of the car are a potential source of corrosion.

To remove such troubles, special restorative products have been created, for example, restoration pencils. A restoration pencil is a means of removing various kinds of scratches and chips by filling defects with an acrylic-based substance.

Pencil Benefits

The pencil contains microscopic polishing particles that fill the scratch and restore the coating. Such a tool does not contain toxic substances, therefore it is absolutely safe for human health. It fills the chip completely, which protects the car from corrosion.

The restoration pencil is not washed off, so you don't have to worry about getting moisture on the car. Its structure is similar to the paintwork of a car and does not leave marks on the surface. with the help of such a pencil, you can paint over any crack or scratch without going to the service station.

  1. Prepare the surface for painting: clean, degrease the surface with anti-silicone. Remove rust marks with an emery cloth.

  2. Stir the contents of the vial before staining (shake for at least 2-3 minutes).

  3. Apply a thin layer of paint to the level of the old coating. The paint should completely fill the scratch.

  4. Polish the painted area no earlier than seven days after painting. This is the time it takes for the paint to dry completely.

Why do we need a restoration pencil and how to use it, we figured out. The main question remains - how to choose the right pencil color? Indeed, with any restoration of the paintwork, it is important to know the color of the car body.

At the factory, when applying a paintwork for enamel, a number is assigned, which is the car paint code. This number indicates the weight ratio of pigments that are added to obtain the desired tone. To determine it, you should rely on the paint code of the machine. Indeed, for the same model of car, depending on the year of manufacture, this number may differ. Therefore, you need to find out the number specifically for your car.

To begin with, let's look at the registration certificate - it should contain an insert with the car's data, among which there will be a paint code. If you did not find this insert, then you can find out the color from a special plate or data sticker. A vinyl sticker or a metal plate with a car paint code is placed in different places by different manufacturers.

The search must begin with the door pillars, such a sign is often placed there. In addition, depending on the model and brand of car, it may be under the hood. Also another place where you can look is the trunk. Place information about the color of the enamel is usually on the same plate with the VIN code. It happens that the keywords “COLOR” or “PAINT” are indicated near the number, so that it is clear what kind of designation it is.

You can also find out the paint color number by the vin code itself. Vin-code is a conditional universal cipher from a sequential indication of information about vehicles. This code consists of three groups of data:

  • WMI - international manufacturing index (sign area code + signs indicating the manufacturer);

  • VDS - description of data about the car with 5 characters (model, body, internal combustion engine, etc.);

  • VIS - recognition part, characters 10 to 17. The 10th character indicates the type of paint (for example, the symbol “Y” is a single-color paint). The following signs after the type of car paint: 11,12,13 - this is actually an indication of the paint number (for example, 205), it is unique for any shade.

After examining the vin-code plate, you can find out the paint color number in order to choose the right restoration pencil. The restoration pencil is an alternative to other methods of dealing with scratches on the vehicle body. It allows you to quickly eliminate scratches and return the car to a presentable appearance, as well as prevent corrosion.
