Here are the results of the latest test, which took place in August this year. All cars received five stars after the Citroen C3 which received four. Citroen, on the other hand, bravely "fought" for the safety of adults and children. The Honda Insight hybrid is notable for being as safe as its competitors with internal combustion engines.

The EuroNCAP Institute was established in 1997 and its aim from the very beginning was to test vehicles from a safety point of view.

Euro NCAP crash tests focus on a vehicle's overall safety performance, providing users with a more accessible result in the form of a single score.

The tests check the level of safety of the driver and passengers (including children) in frontal, side and rear collisions, as well as hitting a pole. The results also include the pedestrians involved in the crash and the availability of safety systems in the test vehicles.

Under the revised testing scheme, which was introduced in February 2009, the overall rating is a weighted average of the scores obtained in the four categories. These are adult safety (50%), child safety (20%), pedestrian safety (20%) and safety systems (10%).

The institute reports test results on a 5-point scale marked with asterisks. The last fifth star was introduced in 1999 and was unreachable until 2002.
