In most cases, the design of the rink is very similar. The element consists of:

• a shaft that perceives the torsional movements of the steering wheel;
• a toothed rod that moves the steering rods;
• a motion support unit in the form of a hydraulic pump or an electric motor. 

Thanks to this, the turning of the wheels, especially when stationary, occurs smoothly and does not require much effort. The steering rack is a combination of the steering column and elements that control the position of the hubs in the wheels. In addition, the system can be supported by sensors that monitor the steering angle.

Symptoms of damage to the steering rack - the most common signs of breakdown

What signals indicate that you need to replace or regenerate the coil? The most common malfunctions give symptoms such as:

• deterioration in driving accuracy;
• heavier work of the steering system;
• steering noise heard when turning;
• visible perspiration in the mangle area.

The most dangerous symptoms of damage to the steering rack include sudden steering lock. This situation may arise due to the formation of gears or teeth on the rod.

Reset steering play, i.e. self intervention

Not every malfunction or obvious wear of the steering mechanism requires a visit to a specialized auto mechanic workshop. One of the problems that you can fix yourself is the appearance of play in the steering wheel. You can remove it yourself using a few keys. Of course, provided that the cause of the problem is the creation of a distance that can be eliminated with the adjusting screw on the side of the steering column. There is a screw fixed with a counter that needs to be unscrewed. 

It is worth installing the wheels so that the mangle is in the best position in terms of access. The gap must be completed before the steering wheel turns a little harder. If, despite the clear turns of the screw, the play does not disappear, the inner sleeve is to blame. This means that regeneration is not possible.

Steering rack repair and restoration - when is it necessary?

Sometimes a damaged maim gives symptoms that allow it to regenerate. What situations are we talking about? First of all, these are cracks in the covers and thin leaks detected at an early stage. It is also possible to regenerate the catheter if its parts have not been severely damaged. 

Of course, the final decision on the possibility of such a repair is made by the locksmith, after removing the element to the workbench. When it comes to rocking chair regeneration, the price usually starts from a few hundred PLN. Of great importance is the type of malfunction and the number of parts that need to be restored to optimal condition.

In what situations is it necessary to replace the steering mechanism of a car?

However, in some cases, regeneration is not possible. Then you will need to replace the manipulator. The cost of the parts themselves can sometimes exceed several thousand zlotys. Of course, you can opt for used parts, but no one can guarantee how long such a coil will work properly.
