Vacation with children

– Soon we are going on vacation with two children, one of whom is not yet a year old. Please remind requirements.

Junior Inspector Mariusz Olko from the Traffic Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław answers readers' questions.

– Soon we are going on vacation with two children, one of whom is not yet a year old. Please remind requirements. Can the oldest (almost 12 years old and 150 cm tall) ride in the front seat, and the youngest with his wife in the back on their knees?

- Unfortunately no. If the vehicle is equipped with seat belts at the factory, child safety seats and other protective devices must be used when transporting children. Only when there are no such belts, small passengers are transported unfastened. So let me remind you that:

in the front seat - a child under 12 years of age must be transported in a child seat (no other protective devices, such as a seat, can be used), the height of the child in this case does not matter. If the car is equipped with an airbag, it is forbidden to transport a child facing in the direction of travel.

in the back seat - transport children under 12 years of age not taller than 150 cm - in a seat or other protective device. It is forbidden to travel with a child on your lap.

For violation of this rule, a driver transporting a child without a child seat or protective device can be fined a fine and three demerit points.
