Edible gifts for grandparents

Grandmother's Day and Grandfather's Day usually cause mixed feelings - we are glad that they are present in our lives, and we are nervous because we do not know if there is something that will please them. Here are five edible gift ideas for grandparents that anyone can make.

gift from baby

There is nothing to hide, usually parents prepare gifts completely from teenage children. However, there is something that even two-year-olds can cook without harming their property and psyche. It is enough to let them pour into a bowl about 100 g of unflavored black or green tea, 1 tablespoon of dried raspberries, 1 tablespoon of crushed dried apple, 2 tablespoons of almond flakes, a few cloves and a pinch of cinnamon. Let the children mix everything gently. Pour the finished mixture into a tea jar or decorative jar, close it and attach the infuser. A card with a baby's fingerprint attached like a professional label will make it stylish and a nice souvenir. Fragrant tea with a brewing device is an ideal set for winter evenings, especially those preceded by a visit to peppy branches.

Cookies from a preschooler

Preschoolers love to be active, and the kitchen gives them plenty of room to show off. One of the easiest recipes and the easiest to modify is the oatmeal cookie recipe. We measure out 2 cups of any dried fruits - nuts, cranberries, raisins, dried cherries, apricots, apples, chocolate candies, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds. We let the child cut the ones that need it. Add 2 cups oatmeal, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 170 teaspoon cinnamon, and ¾ cup spelled flour. We mix everything. Using a mixer, beat 180 g of softened butter with ½ cup of sugar. Add dry ingredients, mix and start having fun. The mass can be scooped up with an ice cream spoon, which I highly recommend, and put on a baking sheet, leaving gaps. You can also take it with a regular spoon, shape it into a ball the size of a walnut and place it on a baking sheet. Bake cookies at 10 degrees until golden brown - about 12-XNUMX minutes. Then we cool them down and arrange them in cookie containers. We can attach a handwritten ticket “for grandparents”. Cookies taste best with grandchildren, so be aware of possible allergies and modify the recipe accordingly.

candied oranges

Candied oranges look spectacular, and their preparation mostly requires patience. Therefore, this is a good gift from a little older grandchildren. Two oranges are enough, they need to be washed well and, together with the peel, cut into slices 2 mm thick. Boil 5 cups of sugar with 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Add orange slices and simmer for about an hour. Carefully place the boiled oranges on a baking sheet, place in an oven preheated to 3 degrees Celsius and dry until they stand out from the baking sheet - about 100 minutes.

Pan

Chilled oranges cool half in melted dark chocolate (1 tablet is enough). Let it cool on baking paper and transfer to a decorative box. Oranges are best eaten within a few days.

Orange jam

Duchess Kate is said to give Queen Elizabeth a jar of homemade jam every Christmas. January smells of oranges and is the perfect time to close their fragrances in a beautiful jar (or even several). It is enough to peel 1 kg of oranges and remove the films. The peel of one orange must be cleaned of white albedo and finely chopped. Put the orange pulp, 3 cups of sugar, the juice of 1 lemon, and ½ cup of water into a saucepan. We can add a cinnamon stick if we like the flavor. Bring everything to a boil and simmer over low heat, stirring again and again, until the contents of the pot are reduced by half. Remove the cinnamon stick, add the orange zest and cook, stirring, for another 3 minutes. Pour the finished jam into scalded jars. We stick labels and give them to grandparents, preferably adding freshly baked challah or a bun.

Dinner

Cooking dinner seems like an extremely ambitious undertaking. However, this is an opportunity not only to sacrifice things, but also your own time. This provides an opportunity to listen again to family stories, and also opens up a space for getting to know grandparents as people, and not just family members. Unless, of course, grandchildren, grandparents enjoy each other's company ...

It is worth taking care of the entourage of such an evening - beautiful napkins, candles, flowers, maybe wine or tincture. The menu is best suited to the tastes of the grandparents and the chef. Maybe this will be an opportunity to show them how exceptionally aromatic vegetarian cuisine is or how nobly you can cook prosaic salmon? If we do not have an assortment of our own recipes, it is worth looking into the books of Maria Maretskaya, who illustrates all the recipes with photographs: “All the tastes of Scandinavia”. Meyer, offering unconventional Danish cuisine, and Jamie Oliver, master of 5-ingredient dishes and extraordinary dinners in 30 minutes.

All flavors of Scandinavia

No matter what gift we choose, let's try to pack or present it in an original way, showing that this is not ordinary jam or tea spilled from a cardboard box. Grandmother's Day and Grandfather's Day are a good opportunity to give people who "already have everything" something that they do not prepare for themselves.
