The most interesting VW Golf in history

The Volkswagen Golf has an iconic status in all markets where it is offered, mainly because of its durability and reliability, which are important traits of its character. Over the years, however, the compact model has surpassed its conventional and reliable car image and various, weird, super powerful and fun versions began to appear. Most of them will forever remain in history with bold ideas implemented through them, others will be remembered only by the most dedicated fans of the model.

GTI W12-650

Compact hatchback with Bentley engine. The end result cannot be bad, and this remains one of the greatest concepts. The fifth-generation Golf received an engine from a Continental GT (650 hp), a rear axle from a Lamborghini Gallardo and a bottom from an Audi R8. And there was ... acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 3,6 seconds. A dream come true for almost every golf owner.

GTI Clubsport S.

Prior to the explosive development of the Honda Civic Type R and Renault Megane RS, it was VW who set the North Arc record for a front-wheel drive car. GTI Clubsport S - without rear seats, with pictures and suspension specially adjusted for the bumps in the Eiffel Mountains. As it turns out, this version of the Golf performs very well elsewhere, but that's no surprise.

Harlequin Golf

Seriously. The special version of the Golf 3 from the 90s was tied to the legend that four main versions of the car were made in the factory, after which they began to change panels until such a result was obtained. You can't miss this on the street, can you?

Back in 1986, VW had better ideas than the T-Cross, T-Roc, and so on. We take the Golf, raise the suspension and install a primitive but reliable 4x4 drive system. Does the Audi Allroad still seem like an original idea to you?

Golf G60 Limited

Only 71 pieces - only for the most ardent, Limited is really used here. In 1989, it was a real rocket - 4x4, 16-valve engine and compressor, 211 hp. The price at that time was 70 marks.

These are definitely not the Golf's strongest features. The company decided to create a convertible version of the Golf GTI R. VW also abandoned this system, leaving the car only with a front end, and the power is serious - 265 hp, and the body is not particularly rigid and torsional. Not to mention that the car entered the market at a price higher than that of the Porsche Boxster.

The concept looks aggressive, but not very pretty or original. It is powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine with 503 horsepower. However, there are hardly many other mass-produced models that have served to create such a concept.

Golf R400

With the release of Dieselgate in 2015, VW put an end to all sorts of fun projects, especially ones that were hard to predict exactly when they would be profitable. Here the formula is simple - Golf R with power increased to 400 horsepower. A nonsensical but interesting model. Audi already had an RS3 on the same platform, and the regular Golf R provided its owner with over 300 hp. To the delight of the VW test pilots, several Northern Arc test specimens were assembled.

Golf WTCR

Great idea, with very good results and the car chosen by Sebastian Loeb for his team at WTCR. But VW gave up on developing its own racing combustion engines, and the days at the WTCR World Championship were numbered.
