SBW - Control by wire

This is an electronic power steering. When we talk about wired systems, we are talking about systems in which the mechanical connection between the control element and the actuator (hydraulic or mechanical) is replaced by a distributed and fail-safe mechatronic system capable of guaranteeing the correct functioning of the system even in the event of one or more failures (depending on the architecture systems).

In the case of a wired hydraulic steering system such as SBW, the steering column no longer exists and is replaced by an actuator unit directly connected to the steering wheel to recreate a driving experience (force feedback) and a drive unit on the wheel axle to operate the steering.

It is an active safety system when integrated with other systems such as ESP.
