Skoda Camik. Driver assistance systems

Skoda Camik. Driver assistance systems This year, at the Poznan Motor Show, one of the premieres at the Skoda stand was the KAMIQ SUV. The car is equipped with a number of systems that support the driver while driving.

Driver assistance systems have become an important part of the equipment of new models of leading car manufacturers. Until recently, such systems were found in premium cars. Now they are equipped with cars for a wider group of buyers, for example, SKODA KAMIQ.

Skoda Camik. Driver assistance systemsFor example, Front Assist is standard on this model. This is an emergency braking system with an emergency braking function when driving around the city. The system uses a radar sensor that covers the area in front of the car - it measures the distance to the vehicle in front or other obstacles in front of the SKODA KAMIQ. If Front Assist detects an impending collision, it warns the driver in stages. But if the system determines that the situation in front of the car is critical - for example, the vehicle in front of you brakes hard - it initiates automatic braking to a complete stop.

On the other hand, outside built-up areas, the Lane Assist system is useful, that is, a lane assistant. If the SKODA KAMIQ approaches the lines drawn on the road and the driver does not turn on the turn signals, the system warns him by slightly adjusting the track, which is noticeable on the steering wheel. The system operates at speeds above 65 km/h. Its operation is based on a camera mounted on the other side of the rearview mirror, i.e. its lens is directed in the direction of movement.

The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system will also help on the route, i.e. active cruise control. ACC allows not only to maintain the vehicle speed programmed by the driver, but also to maintain a constant, safe distance from the vehicle in front. If this car slows down, KAMIQ will slow down too. The system uses radar sensors installed in the vehicle's front apron. In combination with a DSG transmission, it can brake the vehicle on its own in the event of a collision.

Skoda Camik. Driver assistance systemsA common problem for drivers is the blind spot, the area around the car that is not covered by rear-view mirrors. This makes overtaking difficult, for example. This problem is solved by the Side Assist system, a blind spot sensor that detects vehicles outside the driver's field of view from a distance of 70 meters. In the event of a risk of collision, it activates warning signals on the mirror housing.

An integral part of Side Assist is Rear Traffic Alert, which alerts you to a vehicle approaching from the side. If the driver does not respond to the system warning, the brakes are applied automatically.

The ŠKODA KAMIQ can also be equipped with the Multi Collision Brake anti-collision system. In the event of a collision, the system applies the brakes, slowing the vehicle to a speed of 10 km/h. In this way, the risk of further collisions is limited, for example, if the car bounces off another vehicle.

Driver and passenger safety in emergencies can also be ensured by the Crew Protect Assistant, which fastens seat belts, closes the panoramic sunroof and closes the windows (powered) leaving just 5 cm of clearance. All to limit the consequences of a collision.

A useful system is also Auto Light Assist. This is a camera-based system that automatically changes the headlights from road to low beam at speeds above 60 km/h, which prevents other road users from being dazzled.

The driver himself is also controlled by an appropriate system. For Drive Alert, which monitors the driver's alertness level and sends an alert when fatigue is detected.

Some might say that so many systems in a car give little freedom to the driver. However, studies of the causes of accidents prove that it is the person who is the greatest profession.
