The state registration plate is the passport of your car, respectively, and it is forbidden to drive without numbers. For violation of this requirement, the driver will face a rather severe punishment.

The Code of Administrative Offenses contains Article 12.2 Part Two, which describes all the consequences that await a driver who dares to drive a car without license plates. It is worth noting that from the point of view of the traffic police inspector, a car without a number is not only one that does not have a number at all. You can fall under the above article in the following cases:

  • one of the license plates is missing - rear or front (the inspector doesn't care how you lost the number - lost on the way, it was stolen from you - you need to think about all this earlier, before you get behind the wheel);
  • the numbers were not installed according to the rules (correctly installed numbers should be located along the central axis of the car in a special framework, but if the design of the car allows, then the number can be slightly shifted to the left) - license plates should not be behind the front or rear window, lie in the trunk;
  • reading numbers is difficult due to the presence of various means - nets, stickers.

If your number was stolen or you lost it, you will have to contact the traffic police department. There you need to write a statement that the number disappeared under unclear circumstances. You can also contact the police, but this is all an extra waste of time, besides, they are unlikely to find a number for you. The cost of restoring the number with all receipts, duties and fines will be approximately 2500 rubles, but you will be able to drive with a new number without any problems.

Some drivers take a very big risk by contacting “gray companies”, where restoring a number will cost a thousand rubles less, but if such a car is stopped by an inspector, the punishment will be serious:

  • Code of Administrative Offenses 12.2 part three - a fine of 2500 rubles.

There are specialized companies that issue duplicate numbers and have all the necessary licenses.

It is worth paying attention to such a situation - you leave the garage in the morning with all the license plates, and then you find that they or one of them is gone. What to do?

If you saw that the number was gone, then you can try at your own peril and risk to drive through the back streets to the house or parking lot. And best of all:

  • leave the car at the nearest guarded parking lot and go through the recovery procedure;
  • report the loss to the police station, get a certificate there and go to the nearest registration point of the traffic police.

To prevent the numbers from disappearing, they need to be fastened not by simply snapping into plastic holders, but by using screws or rivets - then it certainly will not fall off.
