Penalties for running a red light 2016

Situations in which a driver will be fined for incorrectly passing through intersections regulated by traffic lights are described in article 12.12 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. Departure to the intersection at a red light or on the prohibiting gesture of the traffic controller - his hand is raised up - is punishable by a fine of 1000 rubles. This article also discusses other situations in which the driver faces a fine:

  • turning with the green light on the main section of the traffic light, but the green arrow that allows you to turn in the direction you need is not lit;
  • exit to the yellow light (if it caught fire immediately after the green one);
  • when the yellow and red traffic lights are on at the same time.

In many cities, ordinary three-section traffic lights are being replaced with traffic lights with additional arrows. If to turn left before it was enough to let the traffic moving from the opposite direction, then with the new traffic light you need to wait until the green arrow lights up.

At crossroads in residential areas at night, only a flashing yellow light can be left at the traffic lights. You can cross such an intersection depending on the traffic situation and leaving will not be punished with a fine. If you went to the yellow light, you will have to pay 1000 rubles.

Repeated violation of any of these rules entails a fine of 5000 rubles or deprivation of rights for four to six months. These violations are recorded not only by the traffic police, but also by photo and video cameras, so you should not break the rules by trying to slip through the intersection on a yellow or red light if the traffic police car is not in sight.

A fine awaits you even if you drove over the stop line:

  • driving over the stop line at a red traffic light - a fine of 800 rubles;
  • if the intersection is not regulated by a traffic light and you drove past the stop line in the presence of a sign “no movement without stopping is prohibited” - a fine of 500 rubles.

You can also get a fine of 1000 rubles if, due to a traffic jam at the intersection, you block traffic and interfere with all other traffic participants. To prevent this from happening, you need to assess the situation on the road and stop behind the stop line.

Regulated and unregulated intersections are one of the most dangerous places on urban roads, so try not to break the rules and not create emergency situations. It is better to wait a few seconds before the stop line than to pay fines or become a participant in an accident.
